RANKING AND ACCREDITATION
Rankings can be based subjectively on quality, combination of statistics or surveys of educators, scholars,
students or others. In addition to rankings of institutions, there are also rankings of specific academic pro-
grams, departments and schools. Rankings are conducted by magazines newspapers and in some insta-
nces by academic practitioners. There is No Official Ranking system in USA.Ranking is not the only factor
to be considered while choosing a university.Accreditation is a another factor that one must consider. Acc-
reditation assures the quality of the post secondary education the student receives. It is simply an assura-
nce that a program or institution meets established quality standards and normally given by an academic
body or association. Turning Point ensures that the best institution match for you is achieved in view of
your qualifications and career plans.

LIVING EXPENSES
When calculating the cost of education living expenses play a critical role. On an average, a student spends approx $15000 18000/year. But the expenses also
depend on the place where a student stays i.e. if a student stays in metropolitan city like New York, San Francisco, Manhattan, etc the expenses could go up to
$20000 in comparison to a student studying in a suburban area where the expenses are around $10000 to $12000 / year.
ACCOMODATION
Most of the educational institutions will assist you in finding accommodation while studying in USA. Accommodation are of two types i.e. a student can stay on
campus (Halls of Residence/Students hostel) or Off Campus (Home stay, Apartments/Flats).Staying Off Campus is much more cheaper than staying On Campus
but it is always advisable that the student should stay on campus for the first six months.
SCHOLARSHIP/ FINANCIAL AID
Scholarships & financial aid - fee waivers are awarded to international students on the criteria of merit & need of it. Candidate with strong academics, good perf-
ormance on standardized exams & extra curricular achievements would be eligible for scholarship, awards & financial assistance. To benefit from these opportu-
nities, one has to make sure to send all the required documents by particular deadlines. In addition to this, the presentation of the application package is also
important because one is judged by the image one projects
There are various types of Scholarships:
Fellowship-Scholarship:This is usually offered on the students ability, competence & performance.
Graduate Assistantship: Generally it may involve a teaching or research assistantship. Students receive aid, in the form of cash stipend or a t uiton fee
waiver or reduced tuition fee.
Sports Scholarship: Though seldom offered to international students, athletic or sports scholarships are available in a wide range to outstanding and tale-
nted athletes.
The other factor that can enhance the probability of getting the scholarship is the credit evaluation. The evaluation converts the Indian grades in the GPA system.

ing assistantship or research assistantship where a student is paid $8 to $10 per hour. Thus student earns $ 500-$ 600 per month or can get a waiver in tuition
fees. With this, a student can also do internship in the related field which may be paid. During vacation the student is allowed to work for 40 hrs per week. On
completion of the course, student is allowed to work for 1yr popularly known as OPT (Optional Practical Training). Students with certain degrees in STEM (Sci-
ence, Technology, Engineering an Mathematics) field are allowed to work for 29 months. On completion of the their OPT, the student can later apply on a H1visa

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
Q. What is the transfer student concept?
A. A transfer option is to complete at least 1 to 2 years of the Bachelors / Diploma program in any country and then apply for a transfer to the University that a student wants to
attend in USA. The years waived off in your transfer status will depend on the courses covered in India and the grades for the same. It is rare that one can get exact transfer of
credits
Q. Should I apply only to Top Ten Universities?
A. The acceptance ratio of top ten Universities is only 1% - 4%. Therefore, in order to improve your chances of admission, you should also apply to other Universities that offer
good programs. Also the entry requirements are extremely stringent for such institutions. One must always remember that Ranking can be world wide, region based and even
subject based. If one is looking for a ranked university, search should be subject based.
Q. I have completed 15 years of education in India. Can I get admission for MBA directly in USA?
A. Most American Universities require 16 years of education for admission into an MBA or any other Graduate program. It is therefore advisable to complete M.Com / M.A/ M.Sc.
or at least one year of any Masters Degree before taking admission in an American University. Some top ranked Universities can take you with 15 yrs. of education with 2-3 years
of relevant work experience. Turning Point however has a list of those institutions that would enroll students after 15 years of education directly.
Q. Can I get financial assistance?
A. Yes definitely, but getting financial assistance in the first semester is extremely competitive and you need to have an extremely good academic and test score to be qualified.
There are number of good cases where we have helped student's secure full financial assistance. If you have an outstanding academic background and test scores, Turning
Point Counselors will try their best to get you financial aid
Q. What about shifting school once I get there?
A. Once you are in the US, you are governed by the USCIS rule. According to this rule, you cannot change the school before completing one semester at the school. It is advis-
able that you make your choice carefully to avoid problems at a later date.
Q. Is only TOEFL applicable for USA; can a student also take IELTS?
A. Yes, a student can take IELTS instead of TOEFL. As 2500 Universities have started accepting IELTS, these universities being the top ones.
