Buckling Analysis of Torispherical Head Pressure Vessel Using Finite Element ...theijes
Pressure vessels are being widely employed worldwide as means to carry, store or receive fluids. The pressure differential is dangerous and many fatal accidents have occurred in the history of their development and operation. Torispherical Heads have a dish with a fixed crown radius (CR), the size of which depends on the type of torispherical head. The transition between the cylinder and the dish is called the knuckle. The knuckle has a to roidal shape. Torispherical heads require less forming than semi-ellipsoidal heads. The aim of the research is to carry out Buckling analysis in a torispherical head pressure vessel due to applied internal pressure. The analyses characteristics are investigated by Finite Element Method software. For Buckling, a pressure vessel will be designed and then model educing Solid Edge software. Buckling analysis is carried out to determine the buckling strength. The research is aimed to analyze torispherical head pressure vessel for different internal pressures.

4. ► INTRODUCTION
One of the earliest common machine tools is the hydraulic
press. It is a machine press that uses a hydraulic cylinder to
generate compressive force. It uses hydraulics to mimic a
mechanical lever and was also known as a Bramah press after
its English designer, Joseph Bramah.
Modern hydraulic presses can sometimes be more effective in
settings where mechanical presses have historically been more
common. The performance and dependability of modern
hydraulic presses is good.
5. ► INTRODUCTION (CONT’D
The ability of hydraulic presses to perform has been improved by new
fast acting valves, electrical components, and more effective
hydraulic circuits. Forging, clinching, molding, punching, deep drawing,
and metal forming processes are frequently performed with hydraulic
presses.
Compression tests are used to analyze how a product or material
responds to compression, squashing, crushing, or flattening by
evaluating how the material behaves under a compressive stress. It
gives information on the integrity and safety of materials and
products, assisting manufacturers in ensuring that their completed
goods are fit for purpose and produced to the highest standards.

20. MACHINE COMPONENT
Hydraulic cylinder
A hydraulic cylinder, also known as a linear hydraulic motor, is a
type of mechanical actuator that delivers a single force during a
single stroke. Pressurized hydraulic fluid, which is commonly oil,
provides the hydraulic cylinders with their power. A piston and
piston rod coupled to a cylinder barrel make up the hydraulic
cylinder, which oscillates back and forth.
21. MACHINE COMPONENT
Hydraulic Hand Pump
A hydraulic hand pump uses direct personal effort to transfer
hydraulic fluid under pressure. It is an apparatus that transforms
mechanical energy into hydraulic energy (hydrostatic energy i.e.,
flow, pressure). It produces flow with sufficient force to
counteract the pressure brought on by the load at the pump
outlet.
22. MACHINE COMPONENT
Pressure Gauge
A pressure gauge is a mechanical instrument designed to measure
the internal pressure and/or vacuum of a vessel or system.
Pressure Gauges are offered in a variety of styles, sizes, and
wetted part materials to meet the demands of standard and special
applications
23. MACHINE COMPONENT
Steel Frame
The hydraulic cylinder, hydraulic hand pump, and pressure gauge
are all supported by this frame. The upper cross beam, heel block,
setting plate, upper plate, and under plate make up the frame,
along with the post, press bed frame, base section, and lower
cross member. Bolts, nuts, washers, and lock washers are used to
secure the various components together.
24. The samples are cut into a
cylindrical shape, all having
equal diameter and length.
1.The sample is place on the
hydraulic press
1.Two g-clamps are used to
hold the heel block against
the press bed frame.
The handle is pressed
continuously until the sample
is held firmly between the
heel block.
5.The handle is then pressed
slowly to apply pressure on
the sample, the reading on
the pressure gauge is
simultaneously recorded.
5.The previous step is carried
out until the material starts to
deflect.
5.The point at which the
material deflects is the yield
point.

compression test in Aluminium
Mass in kg Deflection(m) Force(N)
► RESULT AND DISCUSSION
33. The compression test carried out was able to determine the yield stress of the three samples of brass,
carbon steel and aluminium. This test showed that
Aluminum has low strength while
carbon steel and brass have high
strength i.e., they can both withstand
high pressures and stresses.
The hydraulic press can be used for various
operations in the workshop as long as they
involve compression or compressing
materials.
► CONCLUSION
34. It is also recommended that the safety precaution be followed while performing the compression test.
► RECOMMENDATION
The hydraulic press should be implemented into the mechanical engineering world because it makes
works that involve high pressure to be performed easily and quickly.
This compression test should be implemented in every material production industry to determine the
maximum stress of materials
