Qantas Airways is an Australian airline that operates international and domestic flights. It has applied several data science and analytics tools to address business challenges. These include Red Planet for online market research, Flight Pulse for flight analytics, Umbel to merge web and mobile data, and Cisco Umbrella for network security. By applying these tools, Qantas has seen improvements like reduced delays, better customer intelligence, improved maintenance, and operational insights that enhanced its brand image and performance.

Upward Bound Airlines Caselet
Profile
• International airline, founded in 1980, serving 31 cities; 16 in the US, two in
Canada, two in Mexico and 11 in Europe.
• International headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, USA; with a small office at each
airport and five regional offices
• Has approximately 9,000 employees and a few hundred long-term contractors
Company Profile – Upward Bound Airlines
2
• Financed, for the most part, by investment banks, it has grown
from a small, hometown airline into a profitable international
carrier. The secret sauce for Upward Bound is efficiency of
operations.
• All airplanes are the same basic model and version, and this airline
has spare parts for airplanes at every airport out of which it
operates. These two key factors have led to the lowest time per
repair in the industry.
• Additionally, ground operations, including maintenance, baggage
handling, fueling, etc., are extremely efficient, leading to, amongst
other things, the best on-time record in the industry.
• At the same time, though, Upward Bound has been squeezed by
the high cost of aviation fuel and, unfortunately, the standard
model of airplane that this company uses is not particularly fuel
efficient.

• The jet fleet is aging—the average age of an Upward Bound
airplane is 12 years—and the vice president (VP) of ground and
flight operations is pushing the idea of buying a new jet fleet.
• Doing so will drain the company of its cash reserves, but the
high cost of aviation fuel combined with the age of the jet fleet
make starting to replace jets soon inevitable. Upward Bound is
bracing for the anticipated cash crunch by putting austere cost-
saving measures in place:
• Reducing the workforce—up to 20 percent of employees will be
terminated by the end of the year
• Outsourcing most IT operations by moving to cloud computing
services

Levelwise PageRank with Loop-Based Dead End Handling Strategy : SHORT REPORT ...Subhajit Sahu
Abstract — Levelwise PageRank is an alternative method of PageRank computation which decomposes the input graph into a directed acyclic block-graph of strongly connected components, and processes them in topological order, one level at a time. This enables calculation for ranks in a distributed fashion without per-iteration communication, unlike the standard method where all vertices are processed in each iteration. It however comes with a precondition of the absence of dead ends in the input graph. Here, the native non-distributed performance of Levelwise PageRank was compared against Monolithic PageRank on a CPU as well as a GPU. To ensure a fair comparison, Monolithic PageRank was also performed on a graph where vertices were split by components. Results indicate that Levelwise PageRank is about as fast as Monolithic PageRank on the CPU, but quite a bit slower on the GPU. Slowdown on the GPU is likely caused by a large submission of small workloads, and expected to be non-issue when the computation is performed on massive graphs.
As Europe's leading economic powerhouse and the fourth-largest hashtag#economy globally, Germany stands at the forefront of innovation and industrial might. Renowned for its precision engineering and high-tech sectors, Germany's economic structure is heavily supported by a robust service industry, accounting for approximately 68% of its GDP. This economic clout and strategic geopolitical stance position Germany as a focal point in the global cyber threat landscape.
In the face of escalating global tensions, particularly those emanating from geopolitical disputes with nations like hashtag#Russia and hashtag#China, hashtag#Germany has witnessed a significant uptick in targeted cyber operations. Our analysis indicates a marked increase in hashtag#cyberattack sophistication aimed at critical infrastructure and key industrial sectors. These attacks range from ransomware campaigns to hashtag#AdvancedPersistentThreats (hashtag#APTs), threatening national security and business integrity.
🔑 Key findings include:
🔍 Increased frequency and complexity of cyber threats.
🔍 Escalation of state-sponsored and criminally motivated cyber operations.
🔍 Active dark web exchanges of malicious tools and tactics.
Our comprehensive report delves into these challenges, using a blend of open-source and proprietary data collection techniques. By monitoring activity on critical networks and analyzing attack patterns, our team provides a detailed overview of the threats facing German entities.
This report aims to equip stakeholders across public and private sectors with the knowledge to enhance their defensive strategies, reduce exposure to cyber risks, and reinforce Germany's resilience against cyber threats.

Techniques to optimize the pagerank algorithm usually fall in two categories. One is to try reducing the work per iteration, and the other is to try reducing the number of iterations. These goals are often at odds with one another. Skipping computation on vertices which have already converged has the potential to save iteration time. Skipping in-identical vertices, with the same in-links, helps reduce duplicate computations and thus could help reduce iteration time. Road networks often have chains which can be short-circuited before pagerank computation to improve performance. Final ranks of chain nodes can be easily calculated. This could reduce both the iteration time, and the number of iterations. If a graph has no dangling nodes, pagerank of each strongly connected component can be computed in topological order. This could help reduce the iteration time, no. of iterations, and also enable multi-iteration concurrency in pagerank computation. The combination of all of the above methods is the STICD algorithm. [sticd] For dynamic graphs, unchanged components whose ranks are unaffected can be skipped altogether.

One of the most dynamic in the
industry. It operates a fleet of 124
aircraft. The current Qantas fleet is a
diverse mix of airplane capabilities
solely produced by the Boeing

into one application.
• Wanting to provide visibility across terminals and airports.
• Lack off network protection for remote users.
• Controlling access and enforcing security protection for all users
• Considering user access management with different users
needing to access different levels of data.
• Environmental sustainability issues caused due to fuel burn and

airways. The platform was created back in 2014. As a market
research and data insight platform, Qantas Red planet aim is to
collect consumer insights through online surveys. The results are
used to better target qantas own digital advertising and generate
high level consumer trends and insights to share advertiser.
• Flight Pluse: Announced on March 9 . It is an app and flight
analytics tool that GE digital developed in concert with qantas as
a way to enhance safety and support operational decision
making for pilots

media data from multiple sources and training their staff to use
this data better.
• Cisco Umbrella- Qantas uses Cisco-Umbrella to protect both it's
DNA and web. Off- Network protection is a key factor to them and
Umbrella protects their people's both on and off the qantas
network. Umbrella not only helps Qantas meet its objective to
secure users anywhere but also supports the company’s vision of
implementing a secure access service edge.
