Klara Valko, director of Bio-Mimetic Chromatography Consultancy and honorary professor at University College London School of Pharmacy, will give a presentation on applying biomimetic HPLC in early lead optimization to prioritize compounds for in vivo distribution studies. The presentation will discuss what biomimetic screening chromatography is, when in the drug discovery process it can be applied most successfully, and how the measured data can be used to estimate compound distribution behavior and guide compound design through structure/property relationships.

Klara received her Ph.D. in pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacology
from the School of Pharmacy at Semmelweis University in 1979. She
worked for 22 years at GSK in the Physico-chemical Characterization Group
in Molecular Discovery Research as principal investigator, supporting
more than 30 lead optimization program teams. She was appointed as an
honorary professor at the University College London’s School of Pharmacy
in 2004 where she leads the Physchem/ADME module of the Drug Discovery
Development & Pharma Management MSc course. In 2016 she set up a
consultancy business called“Bio-Mimetic Chromatography Consultancy”
(BMCC) that has a laboratory in Stevenage, Herts United Kingdom. She
has more than 90 publications, including a book titled Physicochemical and
Biomimetic Properties in Drug Discovery; Chromatographic Techniques for Lead
Optimization, published by Wiley in 2014.
