An Introduction To Automated API TestingSauce Labs
As more and more apps are being assembled from a rapidly expanding array of microservices, APIs are the key to accessing these new architectures. That new feature you’re working on will often rely on upstream services that can only be accessed via APIs - so to test the functionality of the new component you’ll need to simulate those services.
While APIs are the backbone of the websites and apps we rely on today, automated testing of them is only starting to grow. Join Patrick Poulin, CEO of API Fortress, as he provides an introduction to API testing, the best ways to test your own APIs using popular tools available today, and demonstrates the orchestration of API tests and Sauce Labs tests as part of a Jenkins build process.
Key takeaways:
-Clearly understand what API testing means.
-Learn about best practices.
-See demonstrations of popular testing tools.
-See API and UI/UX testing implemented as part of a Jenkins build.

As more and more companies are moving to the Cloud, they want their latest, greatest software features to be available to their users as quickly as they are built. However there are several issues blocking them from moving ahead.
One key issue is the massive amount of time it takes for someone to certify that the new feature is indeed working as expected and also to assure that the rest of the features will continuing to work. In spite of this long waiting cycle, we still cannot assure that our software will not have any issues. In fact, many times our assumptions about the user's needs or behavior might itself be wrong. But this long testing cycle only helps us validate that our assumptions works as assumed.
How can we break out of this rut & get thin slices of our features in front of our users to validate our assumptions early?
Most software organizations today suffer from what I call, the "Inverted Testing Pyramid" problem. They spend maximum time and effort manually checking software. Some invest in automation, but mostly building slow, complex, fragile end-to-end GUI test. Very little effort is spent on building a solid foundation of unit & acceptance tests.
This over-investment in end-to-end tests is a slippery slope. Once you start on this path, you end up investing even more time & effort on testing which gives you diminishing returns.
In this session Naresh Jain will explain the key misconceptions that has lead to the inverted testing pyramid approach being massively adopted, main drawbacks of this approach and how to turn your organization around to get the right testing pyramid.

Test Automation
Test automation is the use of test automation software like Selenium or self-developed testware to execute test cases.
Test automation is mostly used to automate repetitive testing tasks in a formalized way. It is also used to execute tests that would be difficult to perform manually like performance testing.
There are many advantages of test automation that are mostly related to the repeatability of the tests and the speed of test execution. There are a lot of commercial and open source tools available which can be grouped into two main categories; Code-Driven and Graphical User Interface Testing. Thus the key success factor in test automation is selecting the right tool and have a specialized test automation team.
It is to use test automation tools by considering ROI (return on investment). Otherwise it is quite easy to waste big amount of energy, commitment and definitely money.

Test Otomasyonu:

API Testing: The heart of functional testing" with Bj RollisonTEST Huddle

An API, or Application Programming Interface, is a collection of functions that provide much of the functional capabilities in complex software systems. Most customers are accustomed to interacting with a graphical user interface on the computer. But, many customers do not realize the much of the functionality of a program comes from APIs in the operating system or program's dynamic-link libraries (DLL). So, if the business logic or core functionality is exposed via an API call then and if we want to find functional bugs sooner than API testing may be an approach that provides additional value in your overall test strategy. Additionally, API testing can start even before the user interface is complete so functional capabilities can be tested while designers are hashing out the "look and feel." API testing will not replace testing through the user interface, but it can augment your test strategy and provide a solid foundation of automated tests that increase your confidence in the functional quality of your product.

There might be two different scenarios while API testing. One when you are consuming API from other providers and the other one when you are designing API for your own application.
When you are developing API for your application, you should start for white box testing. The basic approaches are : unit testing, integration testing, edge test cases and security testing.
Today we need everything reliable and accelerated, so to attain prompt results we are using varied automation testing tools. An automation tool is a piece of software that is run by little human interaction. Different testing tools are used for automation/manual testing, unit testing, performance, web, mobile, etc., more to that we have some open source testing tools as well.
API testing is a critical component of the software testing process. Programmers, developers, and software analysts who collaborate to create a stable software product use a variety of tools to ensure the product’s quality.
In such a case, getting API testing right is one of the most important factors in determining whether a software item will be a success or a failure. From this list of recently reviewed web API testing tools, one can compare the tools to choose the best and get the best ROI by selecting an ideal tool for API testing.
API testing has established a trend for automated testing as software development teams become more technologically oriented. More tools will be developed to meet these requirements. Regardless of how difficult it is to find a tool that can do everything, adopting a toolset that meets a company’s needs while increasing revenue is critical. Before choosing one, consider how each API testing tool may be better suited for specific purposes and what features are essential for your software development workflows.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

5. Introduction To API Testing
● What is API testing?
● Where is API testing performed?
● Why do we need to perform API testing?
6. What is API testing?
What is an API?
API is an acronym and it stands for Application Programming
Interface. API is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building
Software Applications. APIs specify how one software program should
interact with other software programs.
API testing is a type of software testing that involves testing
application programming interfaces (APIs) directly and as part of
integration testing to determine if they meet expectations for
functionality, reliability, performance, and security.
7. Where is API testing performed?
API Testing is performed at the
most critical layer, the Business
Layer, where business logic
processing is carried out, and all
transactions between User
Interface and Database happen.
8. Advantages of API testing
●API Testing is time effective when compared to GUI Testing. API test
automation requires less code so it can provide faster and better test
coverage.
●API Testing helps us to reduce the testing cost. With API Testing we can
find minor bugs before the GUI Testing. These minor bugs will become
bigger during the GUI Testing. So finding those bugs in the API Testing
will be cost effective to the Company.
●API Testing is language independent.
●API Testing is quite helpful in testing Core Functionality. We can test the
APIs without a user interface. In GUI Testing, we need to wait until the
application is available to test the core functionalities.
●API Testing helps us to reduce the risks.
