The Apalina After-School Program aims to support local students and schools. It meets daily from 2-4pm, serving meals and dividing over 200 students into grade-based study groups. The program seeks to improve attendance, strengthen parent-school relationships through monthly meetings, and teach life skills to better prepare students. Specific goals for the upcoming year are improving faithful school attendance, improving parent-school communication, and increasing life skills instruction.

• Each day, the students have an opportunity to
earn tickets for coming to our after-school
program. With these tickets they can buy things
in a store that we have each Friday. This also
helps us motivate the kids in the area of
behavior.

• Once a month, we have a parent meeting at the
school. During these meetings we talk about our
goals for the kids, share what the kids are
studying, and even have the parents study along
side their children.

• We make visits to the families to share about
how the kids are doing and encourage them to
continue supporting their kids in their studies.
We also use these visits to share concerns and
praises of the kids.

• Each week we teach a different life skill on
Monday. Throughout the week, we spend time
talking about that skill, practicing the skill, and
finding ways to have the kids participate in using
those skills in the community.
