Mrs. Nawrot's class is reading Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH and enjoying learning about the rats. In writing, students will develop personal narratives. In math, the class is learning decimals and will have a test on Friday. The class leads the school food drive and needs help delivering donations this week. Upcoming events include parent-teacher conferences in mid-November.
Microservices is one of the hottest technology trends nowadays, and also one that brings the more vehement arguments regarding of what a microservice is and what's the proper way to implement them. Underlying these apparently irreconcilable arguments there is a fundamental difference in terms of the philosophy and architecture of microservices: should they be coarse level business components exposing an API or should they actually integrate all layers up to the UI? Should they connect by api call or should be event based? In this talk we explore these two approaches, their differences and also the common concepts with the intention to clarify them and help in making sound design decisions.

Spelling
Students will notice that their 2-5-8 Menu for their
Words to Learn will be different this week. I have
modified the assignment so that it lines up with what
we have been learning during our EBLI lessons.
This Week’s Academics
Reading
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is our story. The story
seems to be a hit with everyone! We have just been
introduced to the rats and we are eager to see how
they will fit into the story of Mrs. Frisby and her
family.
Writing
This week we will select the personal narrative story
that we would like to develop and take through the
writing process to publication. Students will be able to
apply all of the skills that they have learned so far.
Math
Decimals are going so well! So far we are able to add
and subtract decimals. We have been able to take a
decimal and write it using words and in fraction form.
We have been able to take a picture representation and
write it as a fraction and in decimal form. We will be
using decimals on number lines, comparing decimal
numbers, and learning how to round them, and if all
goes well we will have a test Friday.
SCIENCE ends Friday.
HELP NEEDED…
We are leading in the food drive contest
right now! If you are available to help us
deliver the food items this week please let
me know. It would be best to lad up the
items during the school day if someone is
available to deliver it. We have 15-20 boxes
of food so far!

AR Goals- We should all be at 100% this
Friday. If students are not at 80% they will be
required to stay in and read during 2nd recess
all week.
End of the Marking Period – November 1st is
the end of our marking period. Hard to
believe we are almost ¼ of the way through
our school year!
Conference Forms- Conference forms are
due tomorrow, Oct. 29. If you are unable to
meet me during the offered times please let
me know, and we can work out an alternate
arrangement. I look forward to meeting with
you!
Harvest Party- Please look at our Harvest
Party sign-up and see if you might be able to
join us or volunteer to provide a special treat.
Forms are due by Friday so that I can notify
everyone. Thanks so much!
Cougar Den- 4th grade is organizing a school
store on Nov. 7. Students can purchase items
ranging from a pencil for a quarter to cougar
sports sacks and school pride merchandise. I
would love to have adult volunteers to assist
with totaling merchandise and helping
students make change. Could you help?
