Getting Started with OpenStack and VMware vSphereEMC
VMware vSphere® is the industry’s leading and most reliable virtualization and cloud computing platform. vSphere simplifies IT by separating applications and operating systems (OSs) from the underlying hardware. OpenStack is an open and scalable cloud management platform (CMP) for building public and private clouds. It is a system designed to provide infrastructure as a service (IaaS) on top of a diverse collection of hardware and software infrastructure technologies.
vSphere has a long history of being a stable and resilient platform that offers many benefits to host cloud infrastructures. As an enterprise-class hypervisor with production-level features and support, vSphere is an excellent solution for enhancing OpenStack.
Asterisk 13 is the next Long Term Support (LTS) release of Asterisk. As such, the focus of development for this release of
Asterisk was on improving the usability and features developed in the previous Standard release, Asterisk 12. Beyond a
general refinement of end user features, development focussed heavily on the Asterisk APIs - the Asterisk Manager
Interface (AMI) and the Asterisk REST Interface (ARI) - and the PJSIP stack in Asterisk. Some highlights of the new
features include:

Maven is a project management and comprehension tool. Maven provides developers a complete build lifecycle framework. Development team can automate the project's build infrastructure in almost no time as Maven uses a standard directory layout and a default build lifecycle.
In case of multiple development teams environment, Maven can set-up the way to work as per standards in a very short time. As most of the project setups are simple and reusable, Maven makes life of developer easy while creating reports, checks, build and testing automation setups.

Why do we need another build tool when we already have Ant? By focusing on convention over configuration, Maven allows you to declaratively define how your project is built, which reduces a lot of the procedural code that you'd need to implement in every build file if you were using Ant. This, along with Maven's built-in management of repositories for project dependencies, allows you to streamline your build process. Ultimately Maven can reduce the amount of time that would otherwise be wasted hunting down jar files and fiddling with boilerplate build scripts.
This presentation covers Maven's core concepts. It introduces the Plugin architecture, and explain how the most popular plugins are used. It also covers the POM concept and how it relates to dependency tracking and repositories.
Automating your build process with Continuous Integration is certainly a great idea, but why stop there? Why not go the whole nine yards and automate the deployment process as well? Staging and production deployments are typically more complicated and more involved than a simple development deployment, but doing them by hand can be time-consuming, tricky and error-prone. Indeed, turning your staging and production deployments into a one-click affair has a lot going for it.
Spring Security requires a Java 8 or higher Runtime Environment.
As Spring Security aims to operate in a self-contained manner, you do not need to place any special
configuration files in your Java Runtime Environment. In particular, you need not configure a
special Java Authentication and Authorization Service (JAAS) policy file or place Spring Security
into common classpath locations.
Similarly, if you use an EJB Container or Servlet Container, you need not put any special
configuration files anywhere nor include Spring Security in a server classloader. All the required
files are contained within your application.
This design offers maximum deployment time flexibility, as you can copy your target artifact (be it a
JAR, WAR, or EAR) from one system to another and it immediately works.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
