The AoC London project to develop a checklist for Colleges dealing with serious youth violence
and gangs is almost complete. Thanks to all the colleagues who attended the three workshops

WorldSkills London 2011 is issuing a call for professionals in a range of sectors to help nurture
the worldโs best young talent at the largest skills competition in the world.

Workshop supervisors will have responsibility for preparation of materials, health and safety,
security and workshop upkeep and they will also support international judges as they test the
competitors. Each workshop supervisor will be required to commit approximately a three to
four days a month in the period leading upto the competition and full-time for 12-16 days over
the competition.

National Training Awards 2011
Now in their 25th year, the National Training Awards (NTAs) recognise and celebrate Investors
in People accredited organisations that have delivered outstanding organisational benefits by
directly linking the training needs of their people to the business needs of their organisation.
The NTA Annual Ceremony will this year form part of the worldโs largest international skills
competition โ WorldSkills London 2011.
The Awards are free to enter and open to organisations who have been accredited or
reaccredited with Investors in People since 31 October 2008.
Entry deadline is 5pm on Friday 20 May 2011.

The 2011 Golden Shears competition, sponsored by the Merchant Taylors' Company, attracted
entries from 80 colleges, universities and tailoring apprentices. It was a first time entry from
Havering College and the college is incredibly proud to have had two students shortlisted.
Laxmi and Carly had their suits judged on the catwalk for their design and style by a panel of
high-profile judges who included BBCโs Dragonsโ Den investor Deborah Meaden and Jeremy
Hackett, the co-founder of Hackett men's clothing store.
As finalists they were presented with certificates by the Master of the Company.
32-year-old Laxmi is an international student from Gujarat in India. She stays with relatives
near Heathrow but says her two hour trip to Havering College is definitely worth it.
Havering College fashion lecturer John London said: โMany important people from the British
tailoring and fashion industry were at the ceremony. It is the first time Havering College
fashion students have entered the Golden Shears competition and to have two students selected
as finalists is a fantastic accolade for the whole fashion team.
