Chocolate contains high levels of antioxidants from flavonoids such as catechin, epicatechin, and procyanidin found in cocoa. Antioxidants inhibit oxidation and remove free radicals, helping to lower the risk of cancer, heart disease, and aging. Specifically, chocolate can reduce the risk of heart attack, improve blood flow, lower blood pressure, and protect skin from UV damage. Dark chocolate and cocoa powder have the highest antioxidant content compared to milk chocolate. Some pharmaceutical products containing chocolate have also entered markets worldwide and in Saudi Arabia.
