ABIM internal medicine exam review: Patients with atrial fibrillation should be stratified according to their risk of stroke so that they can be placed on the appropriate antithrombotic regimen. A simple clinical tool to perform this risk stratification is the CHADS2 score. A revised extension of the CHA2DS2-VASc score has been developed and has shown incremental improvement in the classification of a patient’s risk.
