SYEP participants interned at prestigious companies like JP Morgan Chase and Bloomberg LP. A lion dance club at a Manhattan high school is now completely student-run. Queens youth participated in a March of Dimes walk to show community spirit. An appreciation luncheon for summer interns was sponsored by an anonymous donor. A volunteer won an art contest for hate crimes prevention. Programs at two New York schools have ended but their success and legacy will continue through collaborations with other schools. This summer, volunteers focused on community service projects raising awareness of issues in the Asian American community through various events.

Participating organizations benefit from the additional resources and support provided by the interns. Students gain hands-on experience in their field of interest which often helps them discover career paths or get hired part-time or full-time by the nonprofit. The program has doubled in size over its first two years and receives positive feedback from both students and nonprofit organizations.

Congratulations to volunteer Fatima Keita (far left) for winning the OCA-NYC’s 2013 Hate Crimes Prevention Art Contest. 10 Youth Services • A chapter has closed for programs at Dual Language & Asian Studies (DLAS), Lower Eastside Preparatory HighSchool(LESP)inManhattanandtheYoungAdult Internship Program (YAIP) in Queens. However, the program’s success and legacy will live on. The Extended School Day program will be collaborating with Landmark High School this upcoming year to provide various academic services and enriching programming for the students. Program Highlights • This summer, CPC’s Volunteer CORE focused on community service projects that aimed to raise awareness on different issues pertaining to the Asian American community.
