1. Welcome to Calvary
And He said to them, "Render
therefore to Caesar the things
that are Caesar's, and to God the
things that are God's."

Matthew 22:21
Nineteenth Sunday After Pentecost
2. Season of Thanks
During the season of Pentecost, Calvary will be giving thanks for its past;
its present; its future. We will be thanking groups and individuals and
most of all God for the blessings bestowed on Calvary Evangelical
Lutheran Church. We are calling this a Season of Thanks!
During this Season of Thanks each of us, daily, need to remember things
and people for which and whom we are thankful. Even on those days
when everything seems to be falling apart… we can be thankful that
God is there to catch us and protect us …. just like God always does!
3. October is
Pastor
Appreciation
Month!
We are collecting
cards for Pastor
Hatch to express
our appreciation.
The collection box
is the church

in the Narthex. We
will be collecting
cards until Sunday,
October 26th.

do these things and when they are not here it won’t get
done. We need some help!
14. Reminder – Don’t Forget
Your Name Tag
Not everyone remembers your name. We encourage
everyone to wear their name tags. It helps not only
our visitors, but all of us to put a name to a face.
There are cords to use as lanyards on top of the
mailboxes. Help yourself.
15. We rejoice with the family of Jackson David May,
born October 9. Proud great-grandparents are
Jim and Joan May. May God bless him and all of
his family as they continue to grow in Christ’s
love and grace.
16. November 2nd, 2014 is All Saint’s Sunday. On this day we
remember our loved ones who have joined the Saints of
Light in the previous year. If you have a name you wish to
be listed, please submit the name in writing to the
Church Office (two mailboxes, in the office window or the
conference room), by email at:
calvarysec@horizonview.net, or call the office at 740-773-
1044. If no one is available, please leave a message.
Please submit your name no later than October 28th so it
can be added to the list. PLEASE INDICATE “ALL SAINT’S”
so the name is not confused with the normal prayer list.
17. Church Council Elections
TODAY
Our Annual Congregational Meeting is today at
9:30 a.m. here in the Sanctuary. Reports will be
received, the 2014 Budget will be presented,
and new Church Council members will be
elected. Candidates are: Jeff Webb, Melody
Knoles, and Mike Northrup. Please plan to stay
and participate in Calvary’s mission and
ministry.
18. Stewardship
Update
The Stewardship program for this year is in its final phase. Many of you
have already submitted your Estimated Giving Card for next year.
Thank You!
We are now in the canvass phase to contact those who have not yet
responded to remind them that we need their help. Canvassers are now
contacting the remaining members to ask for their response. This
canvass will be completed during the month of October. The church
budget is based on the amount of money given to the church. Calvary
Lutheran is financially stable but programs we would like to see added
to our ministry cannot be included in that budget unless our funds
increase. Please submit your Estimated Giving Card so your church will
continue to grow.
Ken Tomko (Stewardship Committee Member)

21. From the church secretary Rachel Miller.
Thank you to everyone at Calvary for the

23. A HUGE Thank You to
everyone who helped with
and attended Oktoberfest.
Those who helped set up,
clean up, brought desserts,
prepared food, shared memorabilia, and who were
part of the entertainment, thank you! Janis did a
fantastic job as usual as Master of Ceremonies and
kept the entertainment and festivities rolling. It
was a wonderful evening of entertainment and
fellowship. Thanks to all!

24. SOCK IT AWAY FOR CALVARY!
Are you a saver? Do you put things away just in case you need
them? Ten years ago we ‘Socked It Away for Calvary.’ Decorated
socks were handed out. If you still have yours… and I know
some of you do!... please bring them to the church picnic on
September 7th … or to church that morning!. If you don’t have
one or can’t find the one you had…no worries…we will have
others for you. Beginning on September 7th we will once again
‘Sock it Away for Calvary.’ You are challenged to put your spare
change in the sock every day. The socks will be collected in
November when we dump all the change (paper money is
welcomed too) into a pot … making a ‘joyful noise’ to the Lord!!
This money will be used for debt reduction…just like it was 10
years ago!

27. Good news: not only will we have monthly events for
Calvary Kids; we will also have Sunday School for children
return on October 5 at 9:30 a.m. in a new format with
new teachers. On the first Sunday of each month, we
will have an intergenerational Sunday School event in the
sanctuary. All ages are welcome to attend; it will be led
by various leaders each month. On the other three (or
four) Sunday mornings, children fifth grade and younger
will gather in one class to be taught by two of our recent
confirmands, Nick Erslan and Breanna Murphy. Don’t
miss out on the fun and learning!
28. YOUTH ROOM PROJECT
As part of the preparation for our conversion of the
old sanctuary (the chapel) into a Youth Center, we
will be removing the old pews. Members may
purchase these for $150 dollars each (all sizes). All
proceeds will go toward the Youth Room Project, so
if you feel moved to give more, you are encouraged
to do so. You may reserve your pew by writing your
name on the masking tape placed on each pew;
first-come, first-served.

On Sunday, October 19 we begin practice in
the main sanctuary from 9:30 – 9:45 a.m.
