Why is a penguin a bird? It has a beak. It has feathers. It’s young hatches from an egg.
How is a bird different from a mammal? Mammals don’t have beaks. Mammals have fur, not feathers. Mammals young are born alive.
 
Words we need to know.. Adaptation:   A body part, body covering, or behavior that helps an animal survive in its environment. Behavior:   The actions of an animal. Camouflage:   The color or shape in an animal’s body covering that helps it blend into its environment.
Let’s talk about  camouflage  with regards to the penguin.
 
Facts about  Little  Blue . It is the smallest of the penguins. It lives off the coast of New Zealand and Australia.
Habitat:   The place where an animal lives.  The  natural  home of an animal. Inborn Behavior (Instinct):   A behavior an animal is born with and doesn’t have to learn. Predator:   An animal that hunts and eats other animals for food.
 
Prey:   An animal that is taken and eaten by another animal (predator) for food. What is the  prey  of the penguin? If you said  krill , you were right!
