Animal Testing Essay
Animal Testing
More and more animals are being taken form their natural habitats and tested on every year.
Researchers, scientists, and companies just trying to make new products are using animals to further
their experiments. If animal testing continues to happen at this rate then their will be no animals left
to use for food, study, or even for simple amusement. When the animals are being taken form their
natural environments it harms the natural food chain and other ways of life. When people abusing the
animal's rights they make the animals suffer and decrease their overall population. Many people are
trying to find ways to end this hurting of nature. Some people find...show more content...

pg#20+) 470 to 7,000 organizations share the world wide view that testing on animals is wrong.
Many people believe that testing on animals for the sake of science and furthering our knowledge is
ok. This is one of the main reason animals are being tested on.(Motavalli pg#26+) Some scientists
try and prove that animals have no desires, memories, expectations, or even souls. A few even say

national Science teachers association or NSTA found that new teachers had to be brought in to

though some "researchers" say that testing on animals is for the good of science, it's still not saving
any lives.
The animal testing has led to more diseases, groups tying to fight it, and groups supporting it. In the
end it's a lot of controversy that doesn't need to happen. If people stop testing on animals then their

Essay on Animal Testing
Biology and Behavior Animal testing is not a problem in today's society because it is beneficial to
humans. It seems unethical to put animals through such pain and torture, but if we stopped it
completely there would be a large amount of human lives lost. How could this be? The further
advancements in medical and technological science is inevitable. Therefore, if the testing must be
done to learn more about the brain and body, which species (animals or man) seems expendable for
such testing.
The real question is which species is more ethical to test on. For example, a rat is given an injection
with a drug and watched regularly for the period of a month. At the end of the month the rat is
injected with a lethal toxin and dissected for...show more content...
There has been so much learned due to animal testing that the consequences of using animals for
experiments far out weighs the notion to stop using them. Vaccines, health problems, and theories of
the brain works have all come about from animal testing. For example, a researcher named Jose
Delgado implanted an electrode in a particular spot of the hypothalamus of a bull bred for bull
fighting. The experiment returned the result that aggression can be turned on or off by stimulating
certain areas of the hypothalamus. Also, the sensation of pleasure can be produced when the right
place of the hypothalamus is stimulated (Wood & Wood,1999, p. 47–48).
Knowledge such as this could only have come about through experiments with animals. The
knowledge obtained can now be recorded and used for other purposes. On the other hand, what if
the electrode were implanted on a human, and the human died as a result of the experiment. Which
animal (man or bull) is a greater loss to the society? The humans unexpected death will be mourned
by family and relatives for years to come.
On the other side there are those activists as well as average citizens that see animal testing as a
wrong doing. They believe that there is no cause worthy enough to put the animals through such
large amounts of cruelty. In fact there are large groups of people that spend their lives

The Use of animals for Laboratory Testing
There has been an on going debate on whether to use animals for laboratory
testing. There are people now saying the use of animals in laboratory testing is not
necessary and there are other alternatives. Many of these people claim the tests that are
performed on the animals are not particularly valid. On the other hand, others claim that
laboratory testing has been depended on animals to achieve medical advances. Whether
or not the use of animals in laboratory test is a matter of opinion. It will take the
necessary investigation and consideration to figure out what needs to be done. Taking a
closer look at each issue will help to show the use of laboratory testing should not be...show more

malnutrition, skin eruptions, and bleeding from the eyes. The side effects of the skin test
are redness of the skin, inflammation, weeping, and scabbing. The animals may also
suffer symptoms such as abdominal pains and cramps, vomiting, paralysis, diarrhea,
difficulty breathing, and bleeding ulcers. When all of the experiments are finished all of
the animals is killed (Chea).
Another issue of using animals in laboratory is it's unnecessary. History has
shown that many important medical advances have been made by clinical research and
close observations of human patients, not animals. A study done by Vincent, at a Animal
Research Medical Center found that the researchers are doing useless lung experiments
on dogs. They would remove sixty–eight percent of those foxhound's lungs and forced
then to run on treadmills with masks placed over their faces. To fit the mask, the dog
canine teeth are cut down. After exercises are completed, the dogs are killed and their
lungs are examined. "The conclusion that has been reached is that tremendous pain and
suffering are being inflicted upon helpless animals under the guise of research, and the
results being attained or admittedly on no benefits to mankind" (Vincent 17). In most
cases the drugs

Using Animals for testing is wrong and should be banned. They should be entitled to the rights we
have. Every day humans are using defenseless animals for cruel and most often useless tests. The
animals cannot fight for themselves therefore we must. There should be stronger laws to protect
them from laboratory experiments.
Although private companies run most labs, experiments are often conducted by public
organizations. The U.S. government, the Army and Air Force in particular, has designed and
conducted many animal experiments. The experiments were engineered so that many animals would
suffer and die without any certainty that this suffering and death would...show more content...
Also, at the University of Rochester School of Medicine a group of experimenters put fifty beagles
in wooden boxes and tested them with different levels of radiation by x–rays. Twenty–one of the
dogs died within the first two weeks. The irritated dogs suffered vomiting, diarrhea, and lost their
appetites. Later, they hemorrhaged from the mouth, nose, and eyes. In the experimenter's report, they
compared the experiment to others of the same nature, each using about seven hundred dogs. The
experimenters said that the injuries produced in their experiments were "typical of those described
for the dog". Another inexcusable experiment was conducted by the Food and Drug Administration.
They gave thirty beagles and thirty pigs a pesticide in their food, seven days a week for six months,
"in order to insure tissue damage". Within eight weeks, eleven dogs showed signs of "abnormal
behavior" including nervousness, salivation, muscle spasms, and convulsions. After experimenting
with additional twenty beagles, the experiments concluded that massive daily doses of pesticide
produce different effects in dogs than they do in pigs. These three experiments, according to reports,
obviously caused the animal to suffer greatly before dying. No steps were taken to prevent this
suffering, even when it was clear that the radiation or poison made the animals extremely sick. Also,
