The document discusses real-time water quality monitoring efforts between the Australian Coastal Ecosystem Facility (ACEF) and the South East Queensland Peri-urban Supersite. The facilities are collaborating to display high frequency water quality data to help understand how urbanization is impacting coastal ecosystems. Sensors are measuring parameters like nutrients, carbon, turbidity, and biodiversity indicators to better understand the effects of land use and floods. The open access data is helping address research questions about maintaining ecosystem services and assessing management strategies in peri-urban environments.
This document summarizes an experiment on the impacts of ocean acidification on larval development of the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas. The experiment exposed oyster larvae to current CO2 levels (control), mid-range CO2 levels, and high CO2 levels projected for the future. Results showed larvae exposed to high CO2 levels had delayed development, smaller size, and inhibited calcification compared to the control. While mid-range CO2 exposure did not significantly impact the larvae, high CO2 levels disrupted the larvae's ability to maintain growth and calcification over time, with potential ecological consequences.

Lotus Notes Presentation - Please loo into it!!projjal ghosh
This presentation i prepared for an USA Client, who was looking forward to migrate from Lotus Notes to some other competent Groupware. But what i felt during the calls that they are not much aware about the enrich features of Lotus Notes. They were basically unaware about all the security Infrastructure of Lotus Notes. So i tried to prepare the slide in such a manner such that i can approach them not only with the 7 layers of security of Lotus Notes but also make them, aware about The real capabilities of Lotus Notes. Like web based application & Integration technologies - based on my practical Experience. As i had worked on different Domains. Like Solutioning, procurement, Financial Institution, Chemical Manufacturing Plant, Explosive Factory, Super Markets , Steel Plant.. etc as a Lotus Notes developer.
In this slide prepared a DFD of a Chemical Manufacturing Unit where i personally worked as a Lotus Notes Developer along with integrating Lotus Notes with RDBMS & ERP.system. I also generated some Excel Report using Lotus Script where in a single Excel file the whole Access Control List will be listed with Group headings , permission for each use or Groups. They further went ahead to know which are the Databases User had used mostly - accordingly using Lotus Script i developed an application which will give the list of Users with their respective activity over a period of time on a Particular Database in Excel Sheet with Graphs. It was a very challenging role for me though i had worked with IBM earlier for quite sometime but this was an exception Role - So i thought of sharing the slides with Linkedin users. I am unable to share with you the Excel Reports as its confidential from the Clients perspective. Hope u like it.
Landau-Kleffner Syndrome is a rare childhood epilepsy syndrome characterized by the progressive loss of language comprehension and expression abilities, despite normal early development and intelligence. It is caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain, often seen during sleep on EEGs. Treatment involves anti-seizure medications, speech therapy, dietary changes like ketogenic or Atkins diets, and sometimes surgery. While symptoms can persist, many children eventually outgrow the syndrome by their mid-teens with treatment and speech therapy.
This document provides an overview of the four types of market structure: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and pure monopoly. It defines the key characteristics of each type of market structure, including the number of firms, type of products, control over price, conditions of entry, and examples. Perfect competition is characterized as having a large number of firms producing standardized products, with firms being price takers and free entry and exit into the market.

This document summarizes a study on two-layer porous asphalt pavements in Copenhagen. The study aimed to develop noise-reducing pavements, test them under Danish conditions, and analyze their acoustic and structural properties over time. Initial results found the thickest porous pavement reduced noise by 5-6 dB compared to 1-2 dB for conventional pavements. However, pavements with smaller aggregates clogged more over time. Compared to barriers and insulation, porous asphalt provided better noise reduction per cost. Analyses of core samples helped evaluate clogging. Researchers proposed renewing top layers to continue the study.
Mathematical modeling and Experimental Determination of Grade intermixing tim...Ankit Karwa
The document summarizes a project presentation on mathematical modeling and experimental determination of grade intermixing time in a single strand slab casting tundish.
Key points:
- Experiments were conducted on a scaled-down physical model of an industrial tundish to measure grade intermixing time under different operating parameters.
- Over 150 experiments were performed under 50 different conditions by varying residual volume, inflow rate, and outflow rate.
- Results show grade intermixing time decreases with decreasing residual volume and increasing outflow rate. It depends least on inflow rate.
- Dimensional analysis and regression analysis are being used to develop a mathematical correlation between grade intermixing time and the operating parameters.

The original continuous crystallization process used anti-solvent crystallization with heptanes and IPAc to crystallize an API. This led to varying composition, supersaturation and volumes, producing small primary particles prone to agglomeration. The process had long cycle times, low throughput and yielded primarily agglomerated particles. Dynochem modelling was used to improve the process by controlling crystallization parameters.
This document describes a company called EcoSense International Inc. that was formed in 2000 and produces several stormwater treatment products including Vault-OxTM, which is a patented dry chemical that contains calcium and oxygen. Vault-OxTM slowly degrades in water to release oxygen, sequester phosphates, raise pH, and promote aerobic bioremediation to improve stormwater quality. Studies show it can reduce levels of bacteria, BOD, phosphorus, and nitrogen in water bodies.
Using proteomics, researchers analyzed the physiological response of the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas to varying levels of ocean acidification (pCO2) and mechanical stress. They identified 1,241 proteins and found oxidation-reduction was the most significantly enriched process. pCO2 had a significant effect on the proteome, while mechanical stress only impacted the proteome at high pCO2. Exposure to multiple stressors can impact an organism's ability to respond to either stressor individually. Considering multiple stressors is important for assessing responses to environmental change.

American Pharmaceutical Review Barnes Et Albarnes72
This document summarizes research on using Raman spectroscopy and turbidity measurements to monitor polymorphic form conversion during crystallization of an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). In-situ Raman spectroscopy was used to develop a phase diagram showing the stable form over a range of conditions and monitor kinetics of conversions between forms. Turbidity measurements effectively detected form changes during scale-up and provided comparable induction times to laboratory data. The combined use of these process analytical technologies enabled control of crystal form during development and scale-up of the crystallization process.
Use Of Microporous Membranes For Regulatory CompliancePeter Hillis
This document discusses how microporous membranes can help drinking water facilities comply with new regulations regarding THMs, arsenic, and Cryptosporidium. It finds that combining coagulation pretreatment with microfiltration or ultrafiltration can significantly remove these contaminants. The technology has matured and costs have decreased, making membrane systems more viable options that provide multiple barriers for contaminant removal in a single stage of treatment.
Using DynoChem to Inform Experimental Design of Batch Crystallization. Rahn M...Scale-up Systems
The document discusses using modeling software to inform experimental design of batch crystallization processes. It presents two models - Model A acts as a "nucleation detector" to predict peak supersaturation without considering nucleation, while Model B solves the cooling or antisolvent addition curve. Case studies demonstrate how the models were used for optimization, robustness analysis, and scoping of new compounds. The models provide a simple tool to aid experimental design for scientists unfamiliar with crystallization kinetics.
This document discusses using a gas chromatography system with a thermal conductivity detector (TCD) and far-ultraviolet (FUV) detector to monitor air quality in Chinese coal mines. A combination of a molecular sieve 5A column and HSQ column is used to separate gases like O2, N2, CH4, CO, NO, NO2, and SO2. The TCD detects high concentration gases over 500 ppm, while the more sensitive FUV detects low ppm levels of contaminants. Using the detectors in series provides a wide dynamic range of 10 million for analysis of coal mine air samples.

The document discusses area access surveillance technologies developed by CMRE, a NATO scientific research facility. CMRE designed and implemented advanced environmental monitoring systems using passive acoustic monitoring with autonomous underwater sensors. The system uses sparse hydrophone arrays and signal processing techniques to detect, localize and classify underwater sound sources in real-time. Initial deployments in La Spezia harbor and Elba Island demonstrated the system's ability to monitor areas and localize sources.
Jozef Pecho: POT and block-maxima analysis of precipitation extremes at selec...Jiří Šmída
This document summarizes a presentation on analyzing precipitation extremes at stations in Slovakia using two sampling methods: block maxima and peaks over threshold. It introduces the motivation, objectives, data, methods used including distribution fitting, and results. The methods included block maxima analysis using the generalized extreme value distribution and peaks over threshold analysis using the generalized Pareto distribution. Preliminary results showed peaks over threshold analysis provided more efficient estimates of return periods compared to block maxima analysis. Threshold selection for peaks over threshold was also discussed.

This publication was endorsed by the National Soils Advocate, The Hon. Penny Wensley AC, on the 8th of December 2022 during the launch of the TERN Australia Soil & Herbarium Collection.
The publication contains the results of 33 interviews with people who, in 2022, have jobs relevant to soils. It is intended for use by secondary and tertiary students who are perhaps wondering what to study or which career might be satisfying - or maybe they have already chosen a soils-related career and are keen to learn something about others who they may meet as lecturers, coworkers or employers.
The booklet will also hopefully be a useful resource for those that assist students with such decisions, including teachers, careers counsellors, guidance officers, librarians, and parents.

EFTEON is South Africa's Enhanced Freshwater and Terrestrial Ecological Observation Network, a new ecological research infrastructure announced in late 2016. It will have around 6 landscapes by 2020 and use a modular, nested design across landscapes to facilitate multi-user, long-term research on biogeochemistry, hydrology, biodiversity and human-ecosystem interactions. EFTEON will establish a tiered observation platform including satellites, highly instrumented core sites, and sparsely instrumented linked sites, along with experiments and social surveys. It aims to provide answers unavailable elsewhere and leverage South Africa's comparative advantages in international research, including existing long-term manipulative experiments. Establishing and sustaining such research infrastructures

The document describes three long-term ecological research networks in the United States: 1) The Long Term Ecological Research network has 28 sites across different biomes that have been funded by the NSF for 6 years each since 1980 to address long-term ecological questions. 2) The Long-Term Agroecosystem Research network has 18 agricultural sites funded by the USDA since 2012 to study sustainable agriculture. 3) The National Ecological Observatory Network has 20 primary sites across climate regions in the US funded by the NSF since 2011 to detect environmental changes over decades.
Dr Manuel Maass (National Autonomous University of Mexico) presenting at the ...TERN Australia
The document discusses long-term socioecological research and the need for a transdisciplinary approach. It provides an overview of the International Long Term Ecological Research Network (ILTER) and its focus on long-term monitoring of sites, data sharing standards, and detecting global trends. The document argues that purely interdisciplinary research is not sufficient and a transdisciplinary approach is needed where researchers work directly with different knowledge sources, including local communities, to address sustainability challenges.
Yuxia Liu Phenology 2018 poster on tracking grass phenologyTERN Australia
University of Technology Sydney Yuxia Liu's Phenology 2018 conference poster on tracking grass phenology with phenocams and remote sensing over victorian pastures.
This document describes mapping ecological facets across Australia by analyzing the key drivers of ecosystem formation - macroclimate, lithology, landform, and vegetation structural formations. 59 homogeneous bioclimatic regions were mapped based on clustering uncorrelated bioclimatic variables. Lithology and weathering intensity were derived from existing Geoscience Australia data. Landform was characterized through land surface form and topographic moisture potential indicators. Combining these ecosystem drivers with vegetation structural formations data resulted in a continental dataset of 369,439 unique ecological facets at 90m resolution. This ecological facets mapping provides insight into biophysical variation across Australian ecosystems.

SQUID is a software for managing and visualizing water quality and coastal monitoring instrument data. It is configurable and enables the user to import practically any data set and upload it to a database such as SQL Server. An in-built visualiser allows the user to show and compare all imported data. A web module connects to the database and displays on a map live data from instruments which are permanently installed in waterways.
