Andrew Jackson was a prominent figure of the Jacksonian Era in the United States. He won the popular vote in the 1824 election but lost to John Q. Adams, which Jackson believed was the result of a "corrupt bargain." As president, Jackson established the spoils system and relied on informal advisors. He also signed the Indian Removal Act, which forced Native American tribes east of the Mississippi to relocate west, despite Supreme Court rulings against removal. The Nullification Crisis arose over a disputed tax but was eventually resolved through compromise.
