I am a multi- disciplined Operations Technician working on a large gas processing and
compression platform in the North Sea. My daily duties are somewhat extensive; I am tasked
with carrying out all of the daily operations to ensure safe and reliable gas production. This
involves carrying out plant readings, extensive fault diagnosis and remedial work on
processing equipment, operating wells, isolating plant and equipment. I regularly use two
permit to work systems ISSOW & P-Vision. I also carry out Gas, NORMand Benzene testing.
My role as an Area Technician involves me to interact with a broad variety of work parties,
carrying out work site visits, permit audits and toolbox talk audits ensuring that all hazards
and controls have been identified and are fully understood by all members of the teams.

I wentintothe motor industrybecause fromayoungage I was veryinterestedinmotorvehicles. I
utilised the workbasedapprenticeshiptogive me a basicknowledgeof all componentsassociated.
Once I had completedthe apprenticeshipIfeltthatIwas readyto move onto a new challenge.My
nextrole wasas a Mechanical technicianatPrior diesel.WhilstworkingatPriorDiesel Iusedmy
experience fromFordtoexcel inmynewrole.I made some strong onand offshore working
relationshipsanditbecame quite clearthatmywork scope wasvaried incomparisontoFord whichI
enjoyedverymuchasI feltit broadenedmyknowledge. Whilstworkingoffshore IrealizedthatIhad
become accustomedtothe lifestyle andthatthiswaswhere myinterestslied. Ithendecidedtoseeka
steadyoffshore position,of whichtookme tomynextrole as a trainee Shell Mechanical/Operations
technician.Whilstcarryingoutthisrole I enjoyedworkingasan individual aswell aspartof a team;I
alsofeltI beganto thrive underthe pressure andresponsibilitythatwasbeingputupon me.Fromthis
I gainedtremendousjobsatisfactionandalsoa lotof confidence andqualifications.Nightshifts were
regularlycarriedoutwithnoissuesatall,ensuringthe plantwasmaintained ata steadystate
followingsafe workingpractices.Unfortunatelydue tothe currentEconomicclimate withinthe Oil and
Gas IndustryI have beenmade redundantfromthis positionsoamnow seekinganew challenge. I
enjoyall kindsof sportsinparticularcycling,fishing andboating.Ienjoykeepingfitandam
enthusiasticaboutleadingahealthyandveryactive lifestyle.Ilike topushmyself tomyphysical limits
and I partake insuch eventsthatdo so.For example Irecentlyundertookthe Isleof Wightchallenge in
