Andrea Palladio was an influential 16th century Italian architect known for his treatise "Four Books on Architecture", which had a major impact on architectural styles. The treatise was first published in 1570 and has been translated into many languages. It describes classical architectural orders like Tuscan, Doric, Ionic and Corinthian as well as building techniques. Palladio also included illustrations and plans of buildings he designed, most notably Villa Rotunda. While his illustrations may have idealized structures, the treatise set forth principles of classical design that continue to influence architecture today.
