Ancient Egyptian’s Daily lives. By: Carmen Younger 8-41
Introduction This project is all about the Ancient Egyptians daily lives. Some of these slides will include Facts, pictures, Important events, and other important information. In my project I  will also have my Concluding paragraph about what I have learned.  Enjoy!
Family life The Ancient Egyptians highly valued family life. The rich had slaves to look after their children. People would sometimes use magic or ask the gods for children. Adoption was also an option )
Agriculture and Tools. Farmers waited for the Nile to flood to irrigate Early 5000 B.C.E farmers learned to control the river To control them they dug canals Later made reservoirs to save and hold water During flood season, Fayum became a lake
Agriculture and Tools. A Shaduf was used to move water from canals to fields A Shaduf was a long pole that had a weight on one side and a bucket of water on the other side First to use a plow to loosen soil Used a hoe the same way they used a plow, to loosen soil Human labour was used to do the plowing and hoeing with little help from animals Harvest time was a time for intense labour Worked: sun-rise to sun-set with only occasional breaks Scribes measured and recorded the harvest
Calender system Unique 365 days to a year, but Egyptians followed 360 days 3 seasons: Inundation= June 21- October 21 Emergence= October 21- February 21  Summer= February 21- June 21 Each had 4 months They feasted and celebrated on the 5 extra days
Sanitation and Cosmetics Practiced sanitation Only rich owened bathrooms Had to dispose garbage at the communal dump Irrigation canals Dump canals were breeding grounds for diseases Everyone wore makeup
Homes and Furniture Made of sun dried mud Called adobes 3 main areas A reception area A hall A private quarter Inside was decorated Flat rooves to sleep on in the hot days Furnature was : Stools Small boxes Chests Pottery jars
Religion Believed in many gods Hapi- god of the river Re- the sun god Osiris is the god of harvest Souls went ot the underworld
Cooking and Food Cooked in clay ovens and open fires Wood: used as fuel Utensils were: Jars Bowls Pots Pans Ladles Sieves Whisks
Food and Cooking continued Beer: most popular drink Ate a lot of wheat, barley, bread  Barley was mostly used as a servents food Wine waws for the wealthy Used the Nile River to catch fish Fruits and vegetables were a large part of their diets Most meat was for special occasions of the rich
Entertainment Dramatizations were held in temples Most important source was the Nile Activities were: Fishing Riverboating Swimming Hunting crocs and hippos Different boat games
Entertainment continued The wealthy threw parties Played instraments Lute Harp Lyre Kids played with: Carved ivory animals Balls Wooden horses with wheels
Government Pharaohs ruld egypt They were considered gods Responsible for all aspects of life Owened all mines Quarries Trading fleets A Vizier was the most important official He would carry out orders of the pharaoh Scribes kept records Oversees supervised peasents at work
Conclusion This project was all about Egyptians Daily Lives. These were all the things that are considered to be apart of their lives everyday. I learned a lot about Egypt while doing this project. Whith the info I provided you probably can learn a lot too.
