Aryabhata was a famous mathematician and astronomer from the classical age of Indian mathematics and astronomy. Some of his major works, which are still extant, include the Aryabhatiya, a compendium of mathematics and astronomy. In it, he worked on approximations for pi and found it to be approximately equal to 3.1416. He also believed that the earth rotates and revolves around the sun.
