Analysing digital
publishing products and
writing: Task 1
By Onder Aslan
E-newspaper
E-newspaper is a product which shares
information and is more of a educational
way to increase everyone's knowledge
and understanding of the world. An
example, of a an e-newspaper is daily mail
which you can download on any device to
get the latest news instead of buying one
for money as you can also save money. Its
also more efficient as all you need to do is
open it up and sync it for the news to
refresh instead of waiting for another to
buy the paper version for the latest news.
E-magazine
An online magazine is a magazine
published on the internet. For example, a
magazine which is common to the public
is ‘line-up’ which is a online sports
magazine where you can get the latest
sports news and watch live streams of any
sports that is in your favour. The purpose
of magazines is to update people about
the latest gossip that is going on as
magazines are totally different to
newspapers (which are generally news
related). Magazines are usually full of
entertainment for the reader.
Advert
Adverts are mainly used to promote
a particular campaign about a
product or event and in this case, it’s
a can of beans from the company
‘Heinz’. The purpose of this is to
show the public what they are
putting themselves in for when
buying this particular item. Also,
they creator of this advert is really
trying to persuade people to buy it if
they haven’t already as they are
really going for it with the slogan
with the word ‘magic’ which is
associated with happiness.
DVD Covers
DVD covers are usually play the
main role to attract audiences to
watch that particular film as there
is a lot of information on the cover
to show whether there is a point
or not to watch the film. This is
because on each DVD cover there
is ratings and possibly sometimes
reviews which determine the
audiences choice. So the purpose
of DVD covers is to give a insight of
the brand or movie is about.
CD covers
The whole purpose of CD covers is
to inform the audience what the
CD have inside. Also, the cover
gives a clear insight of what
people are in for when buying the
CD. For example, for this CD from
looking at the title I can tell that
there is ‘92’ songs inside the single
CD.
Flyers
The whole purpose of flyers is to
break down all the information that
the public needs into small chunks
rather than having pages and pages
of details and information. Flyers
also make the particular event or
offer more encouraging as they are
usually colourful, full of images
(which people like) and trendy. So
the purpose is to inform and
promote a particular offer or event
that is going to take place or happen.
Leaflets
Leaflets are quite similar to flyers
as it is a way of communicating
with your target to audience to
portray a particular message that
you are promoting about your
business or event that is going to
take place.
Instruction
manual
The whole purpose of instruction
manuals is to inform the buyer of
what to do and give help and
support for them to put the parts
together by reading the step by
step guide which is broken down
into sections.
Text and copy for
moving image and
audio products
Texts such as scripts inform people
of what to do and say. Scripts are
used to inform because they tell the
characters their roles, acts and what
they need to do. Things like end
credits (as seen on the left hand
side) are used to promote as they
states names of the actors or crew
who took part in that particular film.
Furthermore, subtitles are to help
people understand the
conversations going on.
Interactive
media
Interactive media is a method of
communication in which the
program's outputs depend on the
user's inputs. For instance
newspapers and television, they
have been produced from
traditional outlets to forms of
interactive multimedia. New
media can allows audiences access
to content anytime, anywhere, on
any digital device.
Promotional
material
Most businesses nowadays use
promotional materials to promote
their products and services. The
whole purpose of this is to provide
the audience with descriptive and
visual information regarding the
product.
E-books
An E-book is a book publication is
digital form which you can find on
electrical devices. The whole
purpose of this to educate people
and make it easier for audiences
as they might not have a book next
to them all the time so people can
just read a book on the go.
Summary
These digital products which I gave a quick sum up on all have similarities and differences. However, they all share
something in similarity as they all inform and promote something to us (the viewers, audience). All of these digital
products are of new forms of technology. For example, nowadays you see more people accessing the news from their
digital devices instead of going and buying paper copy's which again costs money and wastes time. So people prefer to
view/ look at the online versions which also give the latest news by second rather than having to wait a whole day for a
new version of updated news. On the other hand, some people opt to buy paper newspapers as they take their time to
gather all the news they need. Teenagers nowadays are more into digital products rather than analogue. All of the digital
products which I had mentioned can be found on different platforms across the media. Magazines nowadays play a big
role as celebrity lifestyles and gossip are included in exclusives. So people are really engaging with gossips that are being
spread through magazines which then again means bigger revenues on magazines but because there is always news on
celebrity's, people opt to buy or download online magazines on their desktops or devices to get latest updates/news. I
would say that; instructional manuals, leaflets, flyers and text and copy are all the same kind as they all inform people.
This is because they all either give information or help/support the people/audience. I don’t think you can compare all of
them because they all have the same purpose – to gather audiences. Furthermore, I would say that; adverts, DVD
covers, CD covers and interactive media all link as they promote something. However, some may disagree with me and
say you cant compare them as DVD/CD covers are usually just for the attraction and entertainment, whereas adverts and
interactive media are something completely different as they promote and sell in different ways. But in my opinion
interactive media and adverts have the edge over DVD/CD covers as they are on all platforms of the media. Finally,
promotional materials and E-books have no similarities but only differences as they are just two of a kind. This is because
promotional materials are used to promote products whereas E-books are just a from of online book publication which
most people opt for as it is cheaper and easier to access.
