femininity
Blurred lines – Robin Thicke ft
Pharrell Williams
The song's music video was released in two versions, with one featuring
models Emily Ratajkowski, Jessi M'Bengue, and Elle Evans being topless,
while the other censored nudity. The uncut version of the video was at one
time removed from YouTube for violating the site's terms of service
regarding nudity; it was later restored, but with an age restriction.
They have used a red font throughout the video which connotes sex or
danger.
Women show lots of nudity throughout the video which appeals to the male
gaze audience as women are looked at as sexual objects.
This shot appeals to the male gaze as provocative women as she is wearing red
lipstick throughout which connotes love, sex or passion. Although the woman is
naked she is holding a white a lamb in front of her body to cover up which suggests
innocence which contradicts controversy of the video as it is seen as ‘rapey’.
This shot shows women as flirtatious and easy as the female is
already unclothed and as said previously the red makes the female
look provocative.
There are equal amount of men and women in this music video, so each
male has a female to target.
Each female is wearing nude pants which makes them look fully nude
which appeals to male audience and this sets a bad image for women
as they are look as objects.
In these shots they use dismemberment to highlight different parts of the
female body to appeal to the male gaze so women are looked as objects.
It targets women because women look up to them in society setting
expectation as women will think they should look like that.
This shot of the two women gives a poor image to women as they
are shown they are asking for it.
In this shot the female gives a poor image to females as she is positioned
in a sexual position which again is to appeal to the male gaze as they
would be attracted to this.
The lyrics in the is song ‘you know you want it’ highlights this as she is
placed in a provocative position.
The women in the music video are there to make it voyeuristic for male
audience. The woman wrapping her arms around her and male grabbing
her hair suggest the female gender is weaker as the man is taking
control.
This message shows that stating this that it might appeal to women and
that they want it.
In these shots the women are seen as sexual objects as Pharrell is
prominently smacking the female in the video. Also as previously
said the red highlights sex appeal, love or danger.
In this shot the woman is fully nude which appeals to the male
gaze.
Some viewers describe this video as ‘rapey’ to the stop sign placed
on her body makes it controversial.
