ANSWER-We do not get big funding from anywhere .The sources of income are
taxes on water, houses, markets, entertainment and vehicles paid by residents of
the town and grants from the state government.
ANSWER-THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY EFFECT AS SUCH.PEOPLE USED TO
COME TO THE OFFICES TO PAY THE TAX IN CASH BUT AFTER THE
DEMONITISATION PEOPLE HAVE STARTED PAYING THEIR TAX EITHER WITH
THE CARD OR CHEQUE. SOME PEOPLE HAVE ALSO STARTED PAYING ON
OUR WEBSITE .THE SALARY GIVEN TO PEOPLE IS BEING GIVEN TO THEM
BY ONLINE MEANS AND NOT CASH.IT HAS NOT CREATED A PROBLEM BUT IT
HAS INCREASED THE WORKLOAD ON US.
ANSWER-SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN IS A BRILLIANT IDEA BASED ON
MAHATMA GANDHI’S DREAM OF A CLEAN INDIA.WE HAVE INTRODUCED OUR
NEW SYSTEM IN WHICH PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BUILD TOILETS IN THEIR
HOUSES ARE BEING GIVEN SOME MONEY TO PUT UP THE TOILETS.WE
HAVE MADE 3,800 PUBLIC TOILETS IN KOLKATA.
ANSWER-Well the plastic bags are a big problem. We are trying to use new methods
to stop these problems. We are increasing the use of jute bags. The plastic bags
are put on the roads and then tar is poured on them so that the number of plastic
bags decrease. Money for buying plastic bags has been introduced.
Kolkata Municipal Corporation under the leadership of Mayor Sovan Chatterjee has
decreased the property tax rates for the poor slum dwellers, middle class and lower
middle class income group. Legal actions have been taken against those who have
been avoiding taxes. Administrative reforms, easier tax payment procedures have
helped KMC to significantly increase the revenue from property tax. The corporation
needs a lot of funding so that it can finish all its projects.
