Amphibians lay eggs in water and are cold-blooded vertebrates with smooth skin and no scales. Baby amphibians live in water, breathe through gills, and undergo metamorphosis to grow legs and lungs as adults able to live on land or in water. Examples of amphibians are frogs, salamanders, and toads; frogs start as tadpoles with tails and through developmental stages grow into four-legged frogs that leave the water.
