At the end of Webdagene this year you will get 3 short talks about how we, people who work with the web, can change the world just a little bit. This is the second talk.
Similar to the Good the Bad, The Pretty and the Ugly, but completely different audio track. Hard to understand without knowing what I said. Video will follow soon, said the organiser.

In this talk I expanded on the human needs of geospatial solutions - including user design, productivity and digital vs analog tools. Providing food for thought on the 'what', 'why' and 'how' of GIS and spatial problem-solving, this talk was delivered on 6 December 2019 at the University of Edinburgh's Institute of Geography as part of the EEO and AGI Scotland seminar series.

My closing keynote at GISRUK 2019 - a call to arms for a human approach in a digital world, reflecting in a light-hearted and personal way on GIS industry trends, careers and how to succeed in GIS deployments and applications.
GISRUK is an annual GIS research conference attracting around 200 academic researchers from around the UK and beyond, each year held at a different university. The 2019 conference took place in Newcastle upon Tyne in April 2019. Info: https://gis.geos.ed.ac.uk/gisruk/gisruk.html
This PhD research project is presented at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, with a ‘research through design’ approach that decodes the architectural pattern of a historical city, Kashgar, China. The proposed PhD project converts messages coded in Kashgar’s brick architecture into an intelligible language that would allow a particular community—young generation—to engage in digital heritage production.
Spatial is (not) special - Adventures in location-based dataThierry Gregorius
Delivered to the BCS Data Management forum, an overview of GIS/Geospatial trends, the need for spatial integrity, why spatial intelligence doesn't need a map, and creative curveballs like the enduring benefits of analog tools and handmade craftsmanship.
Space as medium for interaction designSjors Timmer
In the past 50 years computers have infiltrated the work environment to the point where there’s hardly a job left where they are not used. In the process, however, a rich continuum of understanding the world through sound, touch, spatial interactions has been flattened to pictures behind glass that are either manipulated through mice or touch interactions.
New technical developments such as augmented reality and spatial computing offer the opportunity to rethink how we can incorporate our body in knowledge work. To do this successfully we have to let go of design concepts that have been developed for a world of flat screens and start over with designing for digital spatial interactions.
Building on the work of Paul Dourish on embodied interaction design and David Kirsh on the use of space for cognitively demanding tasks I discuss a framework for thinking about and designing for spatial interactions.
How can we overcome our fears, address necessary skepticism, and unlock the power of the next
generation technology ecosystem to enhance the profession of landscape architecture? This session will explore the
forefront of innovation, discussing how AI-driven solutions will optimize planning, visualization, detailing, and resource
management within the profession. These tools will play a pivotal role in how landscape architects shape a greener,
smarter, and more beautiful world.

This presentation, created by Syed Faiz ul Hassan, explores the profound influence of media on public perception and behavior. It delves into the evolution of media from oral traditions to modern digital and social media platforms. Key topics include the role of media in information propagation, socialization, crisis awareness, globalization, and education. The presentation also examines media influence through agenda setting, propaganda, and manipulative techniques used by advertisers and marketers. Furthermore, it highlights the impact of surveillance enabled by media technologies on personal behavior and preferences. Through this comprehensive overview, the presentation aims to shed light on how media shapes collective consciousness and public opinion.
This presentation by Morris Kleiner (University of Minnesota), was made during the discussion “Competition and Regulation in Professions and Occupations” held at the Working Party No. 2 on Competition and Regulation on 10 June 2024. 0x01 - Newton's Third Law: Static vs. Dynamic AbusersOWASP Beja
f you offer a service on the web, odds are that someone will abuse it. Be it an API, a SaaS, a PaaS, or even a static website, someone somewhere will try to figure out a way to use it to their own needs. In this talk we'll compare measures that are effective against static attackers and how to battle a dynamic attacker who adapts to your counter-measures.
