Dr. Saido's group generated three lines of mice that do not overproduce APP but overexpress Aβ with distinct primary sequences. These mouse lines can help advance understanding of the temporal and spatial patterns of Aβ aggregation in the living brain, including diffuse versus neuritic plaques. They can also provide insight into the role of different Aβ species on cognition, though initial water maze tests with these lines found no cognitive deficits.
