Country Analysis- The Republic of South Africa by Daniel Stone, MBADaniel J. Stone, MBA
However, the readiness or competitiveness of South Africa is strong and a good fit for foreign direct investments. This is due to South Africans having the right to the various levels of public education. As a result, there is a large pool of young and educated workers found in this country that will take to on-the-job training and retain the newly acquired knowledge.

Study: The Future of VR, AR and Self-Driving CarsLinkedIn
We asked LinkedIn members worldwide about their levels of interest in the latest wave of technology: whether they’re using wearables, and whether they intend to buy self-driving cars and VR headsets as they become available. We asked them too about their attitudes to technology and to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the devices that they use. The answers were fascinating – and in many cases, surprising.
This SlideShare explores the full results of this study, including detailed market-by-market breakdowns of intention levels for each technology – and how attitudes change with age, location and seniority level. If you’re marketing a tech brand – or planning to use VR and wearables to reach a professional audience – then these are insights you won’t want to miss.

Bg wesleyan liberal arts to silicon valley oct 2016Bhaskar Ghosh
Talk at Wesleyan University, 29 Oct 2016, as part of the WeSeminar series during parents' weekend.
The initial intent was to share BG's experience building a Silicon Valley and how internships in SV are important, from a pay-it-forward angle as a Wesleyan parent. But as we prepared the talk with help from Nikhil and the career center at Wes, the theme grew larger to talk about the tech-driven disruption happening in the world, the culture of start-ups and how constant-learning will be part of everyone's professional future. And then about how a liberal arts education can be a huge positive in building skills, networks and careers in tech-driven enterprises, public and private.

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.
Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

2. Startup communities are expanding beyond Silicon Valley.
The best cities are those with a glut of investors and a
vibrant scene to attract young entrepreneurs. It helps to
have universities in the area with good computer science
and business programs. Startups can draw upon student
populations for talent, and graduates are finding that
starting your own company may be a good option given
the current job market. Current players include Austin,
Denver, and the Raleigh-Durham “triangle”—home to Duke
University, the University of North Carolina, and North
Carolina State University.
3. A city has to have the right balance of venture capital yet
be affordable enough to keep the risk of innovation low.
City tax breaks and lower costs of living are slowly
encouraging a migration away from the west coast.
Proximity to established giants also helps. The presence of
Microsoft and Amazon’s brand new campus give Seattle a
solid footing as a tech center.
4. Keep an eye on the rust belt cities of Detroit, Pittsburgh,
and Chicago as they work to reinvent themselves as east
coast leaders. Pittsburgh has an impressive Google outpost
and draws on talent from Carnegie Mellon University, a
leader in interdisciplinary research. Networking events,
innovation summits, and incubator programs contribute to
a fertile technological climate in many of these
alternatives to Silicon Valley.
5. Scott Leese has lived in
both San Francisco and
Austin. He is passionate
about early-stage
startups.
