This document provides an overview of the BTEC ICT course offered at a school in Dagenham. everyone's needs. The school is based in Dagenham and run from
years 7 to 13.
There are many reason to choose this school for you as it allows you to

3. ICT BTEC Course
 There are a vast number of reasons to choose
this course; future aspirations, requiring new skills,
etc.
 You will be doing six course throughout the whole two year, so this
means three each year.
 Students will gain the skills that they need for their future if they
follow the path of computer systems, graphics or business.

4. How the grading works
 You BTEC grade is equivalent to an Alevel
 So..
 Distinction* = A*
 Distinction = A
 Merit = B
 Pass = C
 You are marked on different aspects of you work depending on the
unit that you’re assigned.
 You will first have to achieve all the pass grades before you move
onto the others. IF a pass is missing and you have completed the
others you would still end up with a pass.

8. Unit 1 (Mandatory)
Communication
 This is one of the mandatory tasks that everyone
would have to do. They cover:
 Personal Development
 Learning Styles
 Identifying areas of development
 Personal attributes
 Communication / Ways to reduce issues
 This allows the student to identify their strengths and weaknesses. They
would then be able to develop the through the course by using a diary
that they create.
 They will also create various promotional material about attributes and
different barriers.

9. Unit 2 (Mandatory)
Computer Systems
 The student would be able to learn about different
computer systems and how to keep them maintained.
Some of the main areas consists of:
 Maintaining and setting up a computer system
 Health and safety issues
 Being able to advance your knowledge about computer systems
 The student will be asked to create a booklet talking about what
they have learned within the course.
 They will also have to write a short essay about the benefits and
disadvantages of other operating systems.

10. Unit 8
E – Commerce
 They will also look at security and E – commerce in
general. They would understand the different types of
ecommerce business and the benefits and
disadvantages of them.

 This unit involves creating a website using a
program called WIX or Dreamweaver. WIX
is a lot easier to use and doesn’t involve
the use to codes, on the other hand
Dreamweaver is a lot more code intensive.
 The user would be able to create
professional looking websites that they
would then later review and talk about the
different elements that are needed to
create a profession website.

11. Unit 9
Computer Networks
 This course mainly focus on the computer network system
and how it operates. You will be learning in greater detail
about TCP/IP and other network protocols.
 Learning different network systems and protocols
 How to make network systems secure
 To understand key components used in networks
 Understand services provided by a network
 With the knowledge the student will be
testing security issues with different
computers. They will also create their own
network diagram in the computer.
 The student would have to state the
advantages and disadvantages of each
network set-up.

12. Unit 43
Multimedia Design
 This topic focus on multimedia and how different business uses them to convey their
views or products. You would have to look at different website where different types of
multimedia are used and state why they are being used and how it helps.
 How can multimedia be used
 How it meets business objectives
 Create your own multimedia presentation
 The main part of this unit to create your own multimedia presentation where you will
be talking about a specific course. You would have to explain all the different topic in
detail and use various different multimedia application that you would previously learn
about.

13. Unit 31
Computer Animation
 Another aspect of the course is animation. Users would
be able to create their own animation using flash.
 The Task is to create a 45 – 1min animation that uses all
the different techniques that you learn about in this unit.
