Was sind typisierte Links? Was speichern Triple Stores und wozu dient SPARQL?

Down the event-driven road: Experiences of integrating streaming into analyti...inovex GmbH
The requirements of many modern data platforms develop along two directions: (1) Low latency, i.e. the shift from batch-oriented to event-driven processes, which facilitate much more timely and reactive insights; and (2) complex analytics, i.e. the ability to efficiently apply analytic functions or models to the incoming data streams. However, many companies don't start from scratch, and already have well-established data infrastructure and processes with various degrees of affinity and compatibility to these novel paradigms. Based on extensive experience of building data platforms with customers, we describe in this talk some key challenges and aspects of introducing streaming-based approaches in real-world productive environments. These include e.g. integrating existing batch-oriented data sources and APIs, checking consistency when using event sourcing to exchange data, and building realtime analytical visualizations. For all cases, architectural options are discussed, and the final solution is explained, including technologies like Apache Nifi, Airflow, Phoenix, Druid and the Confluent Platform. We close the talk by describing non-technical aspects like building up an event-driven mindset among analysts.

Can Apache Kafka Replace a Database? – The 2021 Update | Kai Waehner, ConfluentHostedbyConfluent
Can and should Apache Kafka replace a database? How long can and should I store data in Kafka? How can I query and process data in Kafka? These are common questions that come up more and more. This session explains the idea behind databases and different features like storage, queries, transactions, and processing to evaluate when Kafka is a good fit, and when it is not. The discussion includes different Kafka-native add-ons like Tiered Storage for long-term, cost-efficient storage, and ksqlDB as an event streaming database. The relation and trade-offs between Kafka and other databases are explored to complement each other instead of thinking about a replacement. This includes different options for pull and push-based bi-directional integration.

The relation and trade-offs between Kafka and other databases are explored to complement each other instead of thinking about a replacement. This includes different options for pull and push-based bi-directional integration.
Key takeaways:
- Kafka can store data forever in a durable and high available manner
- Kafka has different options to query historical data
- Kafka-native add-ons like ksqlDB or Tiered Storage make Kafka more powerful than ever before to store and process data
- Kafka does not provide transactions, but exactly-once semantics
- Kafka is not a replacement for existing databases like MySQL, MongoDB or Elasticsearch
- Kafka and other databases complement each other; the right solution has to be selected for a problem
- Different options are available for bi-directional pull and push-based integration between Kafka and databases to complement each other

In computer science, real-time computing, or reactive computing describes hardware and software systems subject to a "real-time constraint", for example from event to system response. Real-time programs must guarantee response within specified time constraints, often referred to as "deadlines".
Change Data Capture to Data Lakes Using Apache Pulsar and Apache Hudi - Pulsa...StreamNative
Apache Hudi is an open data lake platform, designed around the streaming data model. At its core, Hudi provides a transactions, upserts, deletes on data lake storage, while also enabling CDC capabilities. Hudi also provides a coherent set of table services, which can clean, compact, cluster and optimize storage layout for better query performance. Finally, Hudi's data services provide out-of-box support for streaming data from event systems into lake storage in near real-time.
In this talk, we will walk through an end-end use case for change data capture from a relational database, starting with capture changes using the Pulsar CDC connector and then demonstrate how you can use the Hudi deltastreamer tool to then apply these changes into a table on the data lake. We will discuss various tips to operationalizing and monitoring such pipelines. We will conclude with some guidance on future integrations between the two projects including a native Hudi/Pulsar connector and Hudi tiered storage.
Structured-Streaming-as-a-Service with Kafka, YARN, and Tooling with Jim DowlingDatabricks
Since mid-2016, Spark-as-a-Service has been available to researchers in Sweden from the Rise SICS ICE Data Center at www.hops.site. In this session, Dowling will discuss the challenges in building multi-tenant Spark structured streaming applications on YARN that are metered and easy-to-debug. The platform, called Hopsworks, is in an entirely UI-driven environment built with only open-source software. Learn how they use the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana) for logging and debugging running Spark streaming applications; how they use Grafana and InfluxDB for monitoring Spark streaming applications; and, finally, how Apache Zeppelin can provide interactive visualizations and charts to end-users.
This session will also show how Spark applications are run within a ‘project’ on a YARN cluster with the novel property that Spark applications are metered and charged to projects. Projects are securely isolated from each other and include support for project-specific Kafka topics. That is, Kafka topics are protected from access by users that are not members of the project. In addition, hear about the experiences of their users (over 150 users as of early 2017): how they manage their Kafka topics and quotas, patterns for how users share topics between projects, and the novel solutions for helping researchers debug and optimize Spark applications.hear about the experiences of their users (over 150 users as of early 2017): how they manage their Kafka topics and quotas, patterns for how users share topics between projects, and the novel solutions for helping researchers debug and optimize Spark applications.afka topics are protected from access by users that are not members of the project. Serverless and Streaming: Building ‘eBay’ by ‘Turning the Database Inside Out’ confluent
(Neil Avery, Confluent) Kafka Summit SF 2018
Apache Kafka has an immense capability for building data-intensive applications. The ability to model and scale to thousands of parallel real-time streams bring with it incredible fundamentals upon which you can build scalable systems of almost any nature. We also have the brave new world of serverless that causes much confusion as to how to use Functions as a Service (FaaS) and streaming together.
This talk builds a horizontally scalable auction platform with real-time marketplace analytics to work at the scale of eBay. The design uses the concepts of "turning the database inside out” to build a model of how to make a stream platform works synergistically with FaaS/AWS Lambda. First, we explore the founding principles of the log, producer/consumer topics, partitions and events. We then build up to Kafka Streams stateless and stateful stream processing and KSQL. These principles are mapped onto simple use cases in order to establish how to build higher order functionality. These use cases are combined to develop an architecture that provides the design semantics required for a real-time auction system and marketplace intelligence. The architecture is composed of a queryable data fabric using Kafka Streams state stores, a high-throughput worker-queue using exactly-once semantics (EoS) Kafka consumers, and a queue-worker hook to drive AWS Lambda functions.
The end result is a real-time system that scales elastically to service millions of auction events and provide live, marketplace analytics. The audience will learn how to compose large scale applications using all of the Apache Kafka stack as well as how we view “turning the database inside out” when used in conjunction with serverless architectures.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
