He did grow Oats Rye Corn Beets  Turnips He didn’t grow •  Cotton- This was primarily a southern crop, and didn’t grow well in New England •  Tomatoes were considered to be poisonous (in fact, every part of the tomato except the fruit is) so no one grew them. Traditionally, they were grown as ornaments, and it was though they would kill pests.
