Delivered at Intersolar Conference in Munich June 10th: premier gathering in renewable energy community. Aleutia's solar classrooms (366 in 8 African countries) and clinics (Nigeria and Ghana) could be equipped with additional solar panels, batteries and equipment to provide a cooperative microgrid for the surrounding community: communties that might be off grid for another decade. And ensure the clinic (a social anchor) always has power for lights, equipment sterilisers and vaccine refridgeration. In this way, the challenge of security, land, and roof access is already taken care of so the cost of creating permanent solar power could be as low as $2 per watt, allowing metered power at the same price we pay in the West ($0.10 per kilowatt hour)) instead of what is costs from a small generator ($1) or the equivalent light from kerosene ($10). Pico Solar projects have sought to replace kerosene but they can only provide led lights and USB charging and are very expensive for the amount of power they produce. The best way to power the next level of the pyramid (fridges, fans, TVs) is by metering it and by using the same larger, more commoditised (thus cheaper) Solar Panels, Lithium batteries and AC Inverters.

Electricity is the life blood of Economic development of any country. The success of any country is only possible with the availability of it. The people of Afghanistan desperately need it for their socio economic development. All major polls show that Afghans wants electricity more than anything else.
The decades of war have left the country's infrastructure unfortunately spifflicated as well as the power grid badly damaged so it becomes more difficult to get electricity out there fast by using conventional cheap electricity generation methods.
The provision of renewable energy power plants to Afghan villages is a feasible speedy solution which can provide the electricity in few days with no fuel cost. Sustainable energy can be provided and the dream comes true.
Energy can be provided by the burning fossil fuel but the main drawback associated with it is the unfortunate security issues in the country. So for time being production of energy from renewable such as solar, wind, bio gas seems only the feasible solution.
Firstly, an on grid provision of electricity may be established for Afghans further it may be extended to off grid solution with step by step installation at selected vicinity on the basis of good maintenance of current grid system.

A New Business Model for Mini-Grids in Sub-Saharan Africa
Mini-grids have the potential to provide electricity access in sub-Saharan Africa where grid extension is limited by generation capacity shortages. Mini-grids create economic opportunities not provided by individual home solar systems. They are locally owned, scalable systems that can connect to the main grid later. The market potential is large but difficult to estimate. Mini-grids using solar, hydro and biomass can have levelized costs of electricity comparable to willingness to pay in areas without access. Challenges include regulatory uncertainty and developing attractive business models, but examples from Nepal, Indonesia, India and East Africa show progress. With the right policies and financing support including capital cost subsidies, mini-grids can scale up access.

Africa faces a major infrastructure crisis, with many countries experiencing unreliable power supplies, averaging hundreds of days of outages per year. We founded Aleutia in 2006 to design computers from the ground up for use in rural Africa. All of our projects were off grid and in countries like Angola we couldn't find affordable solar installation providers so we became expert at small scale DC solar power systems and designed a Solar Classroom in a Box (2011) which we've since deployed at 366 schools across Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and other countries. When we started providing the same for clinics in Oyo, Nigeria we found many sites already had direct solar (battery free) vaccine fridges. But the panels hadn't been connected to any batteries or lights - clinics were still delivering babies with paraffin lanterns. At another site, the compressor had broken after 9 months and there was too much bureaucracy between the aid funder and the clinic to have it fixed - it was an $8000 cupboard.
We realised we needed to provide AC power - a WHO approved vaccine fridge is only $800 (a tenth the price) if AC powered - and take a holistic view, providing power for the entire clinic, not just a fridge or our computers. We set out to kill generators.
Tesla's PowerWall was too heavy (our walls could never bear 100kg) and required an external inverter and professional installation so we set out to make something plug and play.

The migration from analogue to 2nd generation of digital television broadcasting DVB-T2 is about to take place across the continent of Africa.
There is a groundswell of interest in DTT as it will offer viewers substantially more terrestrial television channels than are currently available. The technology will help improve the picture and sound quality of broadcast programmes and also give viewers access to radio and a host of other value-add services.
However, the major problem facing countries throughout Africa is the limited availability of electricity in remote settlements.
The only viable option for rural households is renewable energy with new-generation, low-cost hybrid solar photovoltaic (PV) solutions being the preferred choice.
After adopting solar systems there is a dramatic change in customer behaviour and expectations. African want more than just lights.

Provides enough power for full size fridges, kettles, shirt irons and all the white goods people can now afford (but can't afford to power). Enables dignity.
3G connected so clinics or homes in Africa can leapfrog the west by remotely turning the lights or fans off. Ships in May to 30 homes in Nigeria paying just $30 month on a buy to own basis.
We founded Aleutia in 2006 to design computers from the ground up for use in rural Africa. All of our projects were off grid and in countries like Angola we couldn't find affordable solar installation providers so we became expert at small scale DC solar power systems and designed a Solar Classroom in a Box (2011) which we've since deployed at 366 schools across Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and other countries. When we started providing the same for clinics in Oyo, Nigeria we found many sites already had direct solar (battery free) vaccine fridges. But the panels hadn't been connected to any batteries or lights - clinics were still delivering babies with paraffin lanterns. At another site, the compressor had broken after 9 months and there was too much bureaucracy between the aid funder and the clinic to have it fixed - it was an $8000 cupboard.
We realised we needed to provide AC power - a WHO approved vaccine fridge is only $800 (a tenth the price) if AC powered - and take a holistic view, providing power for the entire clinic, not just a fridge or our computers. We set out to kill generators.
Tesla's PowerWall was too heavy (our walls could never bear 100kg) and required an external inverter and professional installation so we set out to make something plug and play.

Psychological safety in teams is important; team members must feel safe and able to communicate and collaborate effectively to deliver value. It’s also necessary to build long-lasting teams since things will happen and relationships will be strained.
But, how safe is a team? How can we determine if there are any factors that make the team unsafe or have an impact on the team’s culture?
In this mini-workshop, we’ll play games for psychological safety and team culture utilizing a deck of coaching cards, The Psychological Safety Cards. We will learn how to use gamification to gain a better understanding of what’s going on in teams. Individuals share what they have learned from working in teams, what has impacted the team’s safety and culture, and what has led to positive change.
Different game formats will be played in groups in parallel. Examples are an ice-breaker to get people talking about psychological safety, a constellation where people take positions about aspects of psychological safety in their team or organization, and collaborative card games where people work together to create an environment that fosters psychological safety.
