Fire requires oxygen, heat, and fuel to burn in a process called the fire triangle. Fires can be classified and different methods and agents are used to extinguish them. Common fire extinguishing agents include water, foam, dry chemical powder, and carbon dioxide, each suited to different fire classes. The PASS method outlines the proper technique for using a portable fire extinguisher by pulling the pin, aiming at the base of the fire, squeezing the lever, and sweeping from side to side.

Noise pollution in industries and harbour Pavithra Pavi
The document discusses various sources and effects of noise pollution. It identifies two main categories of noise pollution sources: industrial sources like machines and non-industrial sources like vehicles and construction. Major noise sources in industries are identified as machines, engines, and fluid flows. The document provides noise exposure limits and guidelines. It discusses options to control noise pollution at the source, transmission path, and receiver. The health and environmental effects of noise pollution are also summarized.
The document discusses noise levels of Excel Dryer's XLERATOR hand dryers. It states that XLERATOR dryers operate at 78-80 dB but can reach over 90 dB if hands are close to the air outlet due to sound deflection from the high-velocity air stream. Excel has developed a new 1.1 nozzle that can lower the decibel level to under 90 dB and adds only 2-3 seconds to drying time. OSHA regulations require ear protection for continuous sound over 90 dB for 8 hours or 95 dB for 4 hours.
The document discusses the causes, effects, and prevention of industrial fires. It identifies the main causes as smoking, chemicals, dirt/untidiness, contractors' operations, process hazards, and flammable liquids. The effects of industrial fires include direct injuries and deaths as well as indirect costs to the company like lost production, costs of damage, and decreased employee morale. The document provides guidance on fire prevention through risk assessment, fire equipment, training, and good housekeeping practices.
This document discusses sound insulation and soundproofing. It defines key terms like sound, decibel, and reverberation. Sound insulation refers to reducing sound transmission through building elements like walls and floors. Different materials have varying abilities to absorb or block sound transmission. Common sound insulating materials include glass/rock wool, foamed plastics, quiet batts, and studio foam. Proper room arrangement, solid walls, planning for single-story structures, balcony placement, and courtyards can help reduce unwanted noise in buildings. Mass and rigidity help materials resist sound, while openings decrease sound blocking ability.
Chapter 8 noise mitigation and measurementNoor Farahin
This document discusses noise pollution mitigation and measurement. It explains that noise pollution mitigation aims to reduce noise pollution at its source, control noise pollution sources, and protect receivers from noise pollution. Methods include installing double-paned windows, using noise barriers like walls, and controlling traffic. Noise is measured using sound level meters and dosimeters which measure sound pressure levels and intensities. Proper use and calibration of this equipment allows for effective noise pollution measurement.
Fire extinguishers are devices used to control and help remove fires. There are several types of fire extinguishers including water, carbon dioxide, dry powder, foam, clean agent, and sand/water buckets. Proper installation and maintenance of fire extinguishers is important according to guidelines. Fire sprinklers and standposts are also firefighting equipment used in building services.
This document investigates noise levels in universities in Cairo and its effects on students. Noise measurements were taken in 4 universities between 10:30-2:00, finding levels from 51.6-95.4 dB. A survey found 80% of students' concentration was affected by noise, with student noise being the most annoying source. Symptoms like headaches and lack of concentration were reported by 65-75% of students. The document recommends ways to reduce noise, such as quieter vehicles, speed limits, vegetative barriers, equipment maintenance and installation of barriers.

Asbestos is a fibrous mineral that is naturally occurring in the earth. There are
several fibrous mineral types. One of the most common is called Chrysotile (or
white asbestos). Others include: Amosite (brown asbestos), Crocidolite (blue
asbestos) and Anthophyllite, Tremolite, and Actinolite. These minerals were
mined and added to building materials and textiles.
14. ASBESTOS:
HEALTH ISSUES THAT COULD AFFECT YOU
Three specific diseases
1. asbestosis (a fibrous scarring of the lungs),
2. lung cancer, and
3. mesothelioma (cancer of the lining of the chest or
abdominal cavity) have been linked to asbestos exposure.
These diseases do not develop immediately after inhalation
of asbestos fibers; it may be 10 to 20 years before symptoms
appear.
