JISC SSBR Steve Warburton Create121109 Addressing ChangeJISC SSBR
This document discusses innovation and change in institutionally based projects. It explores how much agency projects have within ongoing institutional and wider change processes. Major forces driving change are discussed, including economic recovery, quality/reputation management, and social factors. Resistance to change is also addressed, with strategies like education, participation, and negotiation proposed to overcome it. Participants are asked to discuss key drivers of change and how to tackle resistance. They will then aim to reach consensus on topics like the unit of change, top change agents, barriers to change, and whether change efforts should prioritize changing thinking or practice. The document outlines breakout groups for further discussion of these themes.

The Pineapple Project aims to clarify and structure accredited prior experiential learning (APEL) work and practices at the University of Plymouth. The project team conducted surveys of HE in FE program managers and held events to understand barriers and mechanisms to implementing APEL procedures. They are developing an APEL toolkit and process mapping to help staff explain the APEL process and build case studies to support students. The system will allow users to design customized APEL processes and lead students through applications to standardize practices across the university.
