Air Shower Performance Evaluation Aihce 2010
1. Air Shower Performance Evaluation Presented by: Dean M. Calhoun, CIH President and CEO Affygility Solutions, LLC Broomfield, CO May 25th, 2010 PO 117 Industrial Hygiene General Practice I AIHce, Denver, Colorado
3. The Challenge Regulatory agency had “concerns” over the effectiveness of air shower in removing ribavirin surface contamination Client wanted “data” to self-evaluate the effectiveness
6. Overview of Ribavarin TX = Chronic Hepatitis C FDA Pregnancy Category X Long elimination ½ life 298 hours OEL = 18 µg/m3 Control band 3
7. Surface Sampling Strategy Attempt to mimic actual conditions Attached 7 cm Whatman 40 filters to: Forearm above dominant hand Center of the chest Thigh (dominant hand side) Back
10. Air Shower Surface Monitoring Results (total ug ribavirin / filter) µg ribavirin / filter Affygility Solutions, LLC ■ 13498 Cascade Street ■ Broomfield, CO 80020
11. Conclusions Reductions in surface contamination ranged widely ( 17.7 – 83.5%). In general, the greater the initial concentration, the greater the percent reduction.
12. Conclusions (cont.) The air shower is effective at reducing gross surface contamination prior to de-gowning, but should not be considered as an engineering control for eliminating all but trace levels of contamination. Evaluation of airborne concentrations needs to be performed.
