This document discusses air blast circuit breakers (ABCBs). ABCBs use high pressure air blasts to extinguish electric arcs and interrupt current flow. They are classified into axial, cross, and radial blast types depending on the direction of the air blast. ABCBs operate by using a tripping impulse to open an air valve, releasing a blast of air to separate contacts and extinguish the electric arc, interrupting current. While able to rapidly extinguish arcs due to the air blast, ABCBs require maintenance of compressed air supplies and can be sensitive to voltage variations.
