Mathematical model ofrcc dam breakbastorarcc dam as a case studyIAEME Publication
This document presents a mathematical model for predicting the failure of roller compacted concrete (RCC) dams due to overstress. As a case study, the model is applied to simulate the hypothetical failure of the Bastora RCC dam in Iraq. The model assumes the failure would occur gradually over a short time period, with the breach geometry increasing in size. Reservoir outflows are calculated using the model and routed downstream to determine flood levels and discharges. The goal is to better understand RCC dam failures and estimate their downstream impacts, which has not been extensively studied previously.
The document discusses aids to navigation (ATONs), which mark safe water and help boat operators determine their position in relation to land or hazards. It describes the types of navigation aids, including lateral marks that mark channel edges, and information/regulatory aids that provide direction or warn of hazards. The document focuses on the IALA-B buoyage system used in the US, which uses colors, shapes and numbers on cans and nuns to mark channels. It also discusses other systems like those for intracoastal waterways and provides examples of reading charts and interpreting navigation markers.

This document provides information about aids to navigation in the United States. It begins with an introduction to the U.S. aids to navigation system and how markers help guide boaters similarly to road signs. It then covers the basics of lateral markers including colors, numbers, and lights used to mark navigable channels. It also discusses rules of the road for boats and navigation charts.
The document discusses a dam break analysis conducted by NESPAK for the Atabad landslide in Pakistan. The analysis aimed to determine the location and composition of the landslide, capacity of the lake formed, timing of overtopping, peak flood discharges downstream, depth and velocity of flood waters, warning times for villages, areas affected, and immediate response needed. The analysis used HEC-RAS software to model scenarios of the landslide dam failing after cuts of 18m and 30m, estimating flood wave propagation, maximum water levels, and impacts at specific locations.
The document discusses buoyage and lighting systems used to mark navigational hazards and channels. It provides details on:
1) The IALA system of buoyage where red buoys mark the port side when entering harbor and directions of buoyage are indicated on charts.
2) The types of cardinal and lateral boundary markers including their shapes, colors and light patterns to indicate direction.
3) Other special purpose buoys like safe water marks, isolated danger marks and their distinctive lights and shapes.
4) Common abbreviations used on charts to describe light characteristics like color, flash pattern, range and more.

Digital Banking in the Cloud: How Citizens Bank Unlocked Their MainframePrecisely
Inconsistent user experience and siloed data, high costs, and changing customer expectations – Citizens Bank was experiencing these challenges while it was attempting to deliver a superior digital banking experience for its clients. Its core banking applications run on the mainframe and Citizens was using legacy utilities to get the critical mainframe data to feed customer-facing channels, like call centers, web, and mobile. Ultimately, this led to higher operating costs (MIPS), delayed response times, and longer time to market.
Ever-changing customer expectations demand more modern digital experiences, and the bank needed to find a solution that could provide real-time data to its customer channels with low latency and operating costs. Join this session to learn how Citizens is leveraging Precisely to replicate mainframe data to its customer channels and deliver on their “modern digital bank” experiences.

by Almarin. They are designed to be
used in marine navigation where na-
tural conditions are demanding, the-
re are high volumes of marine traffic
or for situations that require using
the most rugged product available.
The hull of the GUIA buoys is ma-
nufactured using closed cell po-
lyethylene foam core, which makes
them virtually unsinkable. The core
is covered by a polyurethane elasto-
mer skin, which makes the assembly
flexible and resistant to impacts they
may receive from marine traffic.
The load bearing structure, usually
a tail, transmits the loads from the
mooring to the hull and is manufac-
tured from hot dipped galvanized
steel.
The GUIA buoys are tailor-made,
with a modular type build and avai-
lable in multiple sizes and shapes.

• Breaking areas
• Areas with very strong surf
Spar buoys are recommended for
use where there are breaking seas.
Manufactured in the shape of a tor-
pedo and with reduced reserve buo-
yancy, the buoy will submerge and
sink under breaking conditions, offe-
ring a low resistance and a minimum
pull on the mooring.
The buoys are manufactured in glass
reinforced polyester and their inter-
nal chamber is partially filled with
closed cell polyethylene foam to
prevent it from sinking in case of a
breached hull.
Almarin manufactures two models:
3m and 6m. The selected model will
depend on the depth of the loca-
tion where they are to be installed.
In both cases a minimum depth is
required (which will depend on the
swell) to ensure the buoy does not
touch the bottom. The installation of
this type of buoy will require a de-
tailed study of the depths where it
is going to operate, since its reserve
buoyancy is limited and the design
of the mooring is critical for correct
operation.

Recommendation of using the proper buoy for each appli-
cation and mooring calculation
• Narrow channels, inside of ports
• Marking of dredging limits
• Exterior seawall limits
• Turning basins
• Seawalls or submerged obstacles
Articulated navigation buoys have a
reduced swing radius. These buoys
are recommended for applica-
tions that require a highly accurate
beacon placement and are typically
found in narrow channels or inside
the port itself, usually marking the
limits of turning basins. These buoys
are frequently used for marking the
bases of quaysides or moles where
there is an abrupt change in depth.
Each buoy is comprised of a tube
that extends from a universal joint
attached to the sinker to the lamp
located at the top. A hull that is lo-
cated a few metres below the surfa-
ce applies a constant upward force,
which maintains the assembly in a
vertical position.
This type of buoy requires a detai-
led study of the location and will
not perform correctly in applications
with strong currents or where the
variation in water level is high (due
to the tide or wave height). The stan-
dard operating depth is between 12
and 60m.
The ALBA 2 buoy shown in the pictu-
re below is located at the north en-
trance to the Port of Barcelona.

application. Prior to adopting new
designs or incorporating new mate-
rials, the solutions are tested using a
variety of alternative methods: phy-
sical tests conducted at our installa-
tions or in the marine environment
and materials testing in external la-
boratories.
All the new designs are created using
three-dimensional tools and a sub-
sequent structural analysis. The use
of state of the art tools and the de-
dication of qualified personnel in the
Lindley Group are the foundation for
high quality products manufactured
by Almarin.
