Macro perspective on how AI and Machine Learning are transforming businesses and the economy. Presented at the Nashville CIO Council on November 9, 2018.
We build tools for collectives, such as companies or non-profit organizations, to make wiser and more intelligent collective decisions. A vast scientific literature has shown that prediction markets can harness a prediction power from a crowd that is greater than the prediction powers of the top experts. We extend prediction powers to decision powers, by making use of the fact that decisions are primarily predicated on conditional predictions (as well as on ethical considerations and personal preferences). In addition to adding decision nodes to the usual prediction market, we also shift from an anonymous market institution to a network of members of some collective, such as employees of a company. By allowing members to bet on any event that they see as relevant to their collective, we establish a safe and honest avenue of communication where employees and board members etc. can put their money where their mouth is and where they can meaningfully engage with other members and feel heard.

Expert opinion on managing data breachesIBM Analytics
For the first time, cybersecurity strategy is an integral part of the platforms for the US presidential candidates. Today, data breaches and cyber attacks are no longer just one offs but seemingly happen daily and impact both the private sector and government. What are we doing to minimize these data breaches and counter cyber attacks? What’s the role of government in fighting cyber crime? Where does the public sector fit in the cyber-crime puzzle? Cybersecurity experts Dan Lohrmann, Scott Schober, Shahid Shah, Eric Vanderburg and Morgan Wright address these questions.

Artificial Intelligence and automation are upsetting organizations across the globe. As these new innovations create, numerous organizations are progressively considering coordinating AI or possibly mechanization into their tasks. As indicated by an investigation by Narrative Science the quantity of organizations actualizing AI, inside the space of one year, almost multiplied with an expansion from 38% to 61%. Of these organizations, a quarter use AI for prescient investigation, and 22% use it for AI.

increased on-chain liquidity and institutional microfinance; disrupting a $100 Billion dollar market that is growing greater than 15% per year.
This includes a strategy to move from centralized development to
decentralization. The Digital Reserve Network (“The Digital Reserve”) is a novel microfinance institution designed to produce economic gain for stakeholders and a sustainable model for increasing financial inclusion.
The Digital Reserve is a pseudo-anonymous peer to peer network
secured by a fee-based Proof of Stake algorithm and quantum
resistant cryptographic signatures. This network will utilize a modified Directed Acyclic Graph or GHOST to minimize block times and increase scalability. As a development of the ability for Blockchain networks to establish a distributed consensus based economy, one of the primary advancements will be the Denarii protocol’s utilization of the staked transactions. They will be treated as working assets allocated to users based upon increasingly stringent conditions as the amounts increase. The Denarii protocol will follow parameters established by a dynamic machine learning process that tracks borrowing rates, defaults and overall transactions to normalize the monetary supply to boundary conditions. This includes a strategy to move from centralized development to decentralization.

The new fundamentals-Seizing opportunities with AI in the cognitive economyLynn Reyes
We are in a new era of exponential learning and the world is transitioning to a cognitive economy. All—organizations, industries, governments, individuals—are learning, interacting in dynamic ecosystems and augmenting intelligence at increasing scales. Disruptive forces are reshaping societies and economies; and the impact of technology is especially profound. Data, emerging technologies and cyber-turbulence will continue to fuel disruption into the future. Leaders will also need to become agile visionary doers. Government will play a critical role in establishing the foundation of a knowledge-based, learning society. New fundamentals are needed.
Emerging opportunities in the age of dataEjaz Siddiqui
We live in a data-driven world. There are more than 4 billion people around the world using the internet.
This show an unprecedented spread and growth of digital devices. These digital devices (Mobiles, Computers, Watches, IoT etc) are the factories for creating data. It means we live in the Age of Data, and it’s expanding at astonishing rates. We may need to unplug and take a break from time to time, but data never sleeps.
This generation of huge data presents many new challenges as well as opportunities. There would be huge opportunity for the people who could collect, process, manage, drive insights and make useful decisions from this data. Certain fields are becoming very important and necessary to manage and process this data.
The commercial real estate (CRE) industry has reached an inflection point - traditional business practices are succumbing to the market pressures of new technologies. Despite negative rhetoric around lagging adoption rates in CRE, we see professionals discovering clever ways to leverage data transparency and real-time collaboration. Still, as business processes respond to the influx of new solutions, the basic building blocks of the industry remain intact: research, due diligence, and relationships will always be the foundation of CRE.
At RealMassive, our strategy is predicated on innovating and collaborating with the industry, not disrupting it. We rely on the collective ingenuity of the market to inform our product roadmap, which is why we're excited for this particular report. We chatted with emerging and influential voices in the industry to collect their perspectives on the trends in data and technology that are enabling a new normal in CRE.
This ongoing conversation will take many different forms, beginning with this report which features industry professionals. Over time we expect to explore these topics by vertical, geography, and function so insights and evolution can be shared with a broader audience. We invite you to join us in this discussion which we hope will pervade business meetings, digital and social media, and industry events. Let us know your thoughts using the hashtag #CREcosystem.

HPE Building Intelligent & Autonomous Datacenters for the Data EconomySamarn Pannue
Automation is becoming a critical need IDC’s Enterprise Datacenter survey 2018 shows that 45% of the respondents are demanding more shared, agile and flexible resources in the digital transformation era. As a result, IDC sees software defined
and automation becoming the top infrastructure priority for the CIO.
AI will also play a huge role in enabling datacenter automation with enhanced self-learning and predictive capabilities to continuously stay ahead of the problems that cause datacenter failure.
Deploying machine learning pipelines robustly at scale is one of the biggest challenges within an organization. Kubeflow is an open-source platform for distributed training, tuning, and serving models on Kubenetes. As a comprehensive solution for deploying and managing end-to-end data science and machine learning pipelines, Kubeflow is rapidly accelerating analytics innovation and adoption. John provides an overview of Kubeflow and how he has been using it in the wild.
From Amazon to Google, top technology firms have embraced data science and machine learning to improve business outcomes. Yet AI adoption beyond these firms has been slow due to obstacles such as hiring talent, heterogeneous data, and compute infrastructure. Larger firms have built teams to tackle these issues with some success, but small- and mid-tier firms are at a distinct disadvantage. AI as a Service is a paradigm that levels the playing field and empowers businesses across the spectrum.
The concurrent rise of big data, modern hardware, and deep learning promises to transform analytics within healthcare and life science organizations. But big data is expensive to annotate, and not all data is created equal. The practicality of most problems requires inference from small datasets and incorporation of external knowledge. This is particularly true for tasks that involve natural language processing. John will discuss several methods that allow us to introduce prior knowledge to learn from small data, including deep contextual representations, inductive transfer learning, and adversarial augmentation.
Presentation at the Joint Meeting: Nashville Data Science and Greater Nashville Healthcare Analytics on June 18, 2019.
If you have a computer like mine, you probably have thousands of files stored haphazardly in folders or crowded on the desktop. Who has the time anymore to sort and organize these files? What if there was an autonomous agent that could? I am building DeepREM, a machine learning agent that links, indexes, and organizes documents while running in the background on your computer. Similar to how the human brain uses sleep to organize daily sensory input, DeepREM incrementally organizes your file contents systematically and hierarchically into virtual topics/classes/taxonomies based on metadata and text/numerical contents. It can be customized by automatically learning how you organize files. It’s much more than a file browser or search agent. And if you think it’s helpful for your personal computer, think what it can do to unlock the intelligence stored in all those PC hard drives across your company.
Healthy Competition: How Adversarial Reasoning is Leading the Next Wave of In...John Liu
In recent years, machine learning and reinforcement learning algorithms have revolutionized how we tackle problems in pattern recognition, inference and prediction. These learning algorithms are inherently stochastic in nature and collaborative by design. While powerful, they often lead to models that exhibit fragility in noisy real-world domains. A new generation of learning algorithms are evolving to augment robustness by embracing adversarial reasoning. In place of cooperative learning, these algorithms espouse game theoretic concepts of competition, deception, and Nash equilibria. In this talk, John will examine the role of adversarial reasoning in problem solving. Attendees will learn about the principles underpinning adversarial reasoning and their relevance to the new generation of machine learning algorithms including actor-critic A3C methods, generative adversarial networks, and variational autoencoders. In the end, the objective of this talk is to provide an intuitive understanding of the coming learning algorithms that can surmise intent, detect and practice deception, and formulate long-range winning strategies to real world problems.
Financial markets are driven by fundamentals and sentiment. While investment technologies that leverage fundamental analysis have matured, few exist that effectively incorporate sentiment analysis. At the same time, the availability of financial sentiment data in structured and unstructured form has grown exponentially. In this talk, John will discuss current solutions and ongoing research in the application of sentiment-driven financial intelligence for investment management and trading strategies.
The Invisible Internet Project (I2P) is a fully decentralized, self-organizing network layer that provides secure and anonymous communications. As an emerging darknet, I2P addresses much of the surveillance dragnet concerns and flaws of Tor. With a growing list of supported applications (including integration with blockchain crypto-platforms), I2P is poised for mainstream adoption.
Beyond Machine Learning: The New Generation of Learning Algorithms Coming to ...John Liu
Machine learning algorithms can be extremely powerful in pattern recognition and prediction, but they suffer from several well-known deficiencies in practice and scope. This has led to the evolution of new learning algorithms that unite concepts from cognitive neuroscience, educational psychology, and artificial intelligence. Examples of these algorithms are seen in self-driving cars, Go-playing computers, and conversational dialogue agents. The fundamental precepts and practical limitations of machine learning and deep learning, along with the principles behind active learning, transfer learning, reinforcement learning, apprenticeship learning, multi-task learning, meta-learning, and lifelong learning will be examined along with some examples. Ultimately, this talk aims to spark interest in new learning algorithms that fundamentally challenge us to broaden our notion of machine learning and its capabilities.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
