1. Agreement of subject and
verb

2. • Use a singular verb with a singular subject, a singular subject
names one place, person, thing or idea.
• The shop closes on Saturday.
• Lucy is a big fan of ballet.
The verb in a sentence should agree in the number with the
subject.

• You look gorgeous.
• The class is really small.
Singular verbs in present tense usually end with (s) . However both
pronouns (I) and (You) do not in with (s).

4. • The students are great.
• The oceans include many species of fish.
• The kids laugh a lot.
Use a plural verb with a plural subject. A plural subject is more
than one person, place, thing or idea.

5. • She had been studying since hours
• I did not realize my mistake until I submitted the exam paper.
Verb phrases are sentences that have a verb and at least a
helping verb, the helping verb must agree with the subject.
