This document summarizes the scoping of an enterprise search implementation for a global pharmaceutical company with 100,000 employees and a large and growing collection of documents. The challenges included scaling the search infrastructure to support the current collection as well as anticipated growth, improving performance for remote users, and enhancing search functionality. The proposed solution involved developing a content management strategy, search strategy across multiple platforms, and detailed planning and implementation approach. Key challenges were dealing with changing technologies that were still in development and ongoing content migrations. The benefits once completed would include a unified search experience, global availability, and enhanced performance.
Scoping a Successful SharePoint 2016 Hybrid Search ImplementationAgnes Molnar
Based on real-world project experiences, this session demonstrates the process of scoping and planning a successful Hybrid Search implementation with SharePoint 2016 and Office 365. The session covers the initial challenges, requirements, steps to follow, as well as lessons learned. As a takeaway, you will have a plan that your organization can also follow, and a collection of online resources that help with the implementation.
Connecting External Content to SharePoint SearchAgnes Molnar
Connecting external data sources to Search is both art and science. Fun and challenge!
Providing a unified user experience across various systems needs proper planning and implementation. In this demo-packed webinar, Agnes demonstrates practical steps of enhancing Search with external data, setting up and normalizing the search schema, using result sources, customizing the UI, and many more.
Search is nothing without context. In this session we help you build your strategy around best serving your customers for Office 365 through planning and best practices. SharePoint 2013 is compared to Office 365 as well.
How to be Successful with Search in YOUR OrganizationAgnes Molnar
Search is no longer simply about “Search”. While Information Overload is the reality of our lives, and everyone talks about Big Data and Internet of Things (IoT), findability gets more and more critical. The “ten blue lines” Search Experience is outdated – we need something better, something more, something that is more efficient, more user friendly and more helpful.
Recognizing these challenges is the first step of a long journey. In this session, attendees will learn about:
Search processes (Crawling, Indexing, Content Processing, Query Processing, Analytics) and how to optimize them.
User experience: how to make the Search UI easy-to-use, and how to guarantee your users will be satisfied with it.
Search architecture: on-premises, online and hybrid. Pros and cons, real-world use cases and challenges.
Search Quality: Proven action plan toward implementing successful Search.
Enterprise Search is still considered as a one-time IT Project in most cases, although it should rather be a Business Process, with well-defined lifecycle, metrics and analytics. Measuring and controlling success is very challenging – in most cases, it has to be a string collaboration between internal and external experts. In this session, I’m introducing several roles of this process as well as useful metrics and best practices. Attendees will get a practical plan for quality management of their Enterprise Search solution as the key takeaway.
The value of metadata still falls under the radar, business professionals ask ‘what’s in it for me?’ and IT professionals realize that, for the most part, manually created metadata is meaningless. The answer is to automatically generate metadata. This session will examine how automating tagging with end user involvement is ineffective, and capturing existing metadata is useful, but nuances, relationships, and concepts are lost, unless terms are manually added, which are highly subjective.
The somewhat elusive, missing component is how to automatically generate metadata capable of identifying concepts within content, in the context in which the content was written, without end user participation. This opens the door to reuse the metadata to drive other processes. Discover why having the right metadata is key when analyzing documents, not only generating appropriate metadata automatically but also generating metadata that contains concepts within the context of the environment. Before pushing that metadata to SharePoint or preparing documents for migration.
You will learn:
* How you can automatically get metadata into the Microsoft search index.
* How to can optimize your content migration by classifying documents.
* Understand how content can be processed, regardless of location – online or on-premises.
* How metadata can be surfaced in the search refinement panel.

SharePoint Search - August 2019 at Utah SharePoint User GroupGreg McMurray
An introduction to the key elements that helped us find success in using SharePoint Search to create a productive extranet environment for collaboration with external stakeholders. Video recording available on YouTube as well.
We live in a world of silos - separate systems each with data essential to our daily work. No organization has all its important information in one place - 61% of knowledge workers regularly access 4 or more systems to get the information they need to do their jobs, and 15% need 11 or more systems. Integration to provide a unified view across these systems is very valuable, but it has been difficult to accomplish - even between different Microsoft products. This seminar will show you how to bridge across these silos using a search-based approach that is both quick and powerful.

SharePoint has always had a big emphasis on Content Management. This focus has been become stronger version by version. We've had more and more options to organize and classify content through sites, lists, libraries and folders, as well as managed metadata and other properties. These tools help build a SharePoint Information Architecture and are the foundation for improving document search within SharePoint. But as that architecture gets more complex, users can get overwhelmed by the amount of content, and can find themselves easily with a tons of siloed content and, at the same time, with lots of content that cannot be found at all. In these scenarios, Search can be a good option to help getting better findability, but sometimes it’s not enough. In this webinar, we’ll discuss some real-world Content Management use cases and demonstrate how content analytics can help to improve in these scenarios.
Content without access is worthless. Searching for company data has mostly been a poor experience. This needs to change…

Office Graph and Delve - The Future of Discovering and Consuming INformation?Agnes Molnar
We’re transitioning from the information technology age to the social/big data era. While we have to deal with massive information overload, our interaction with information gets more and more important. Search, Social and Enterprise Intelligence (Machine Learning) gets together, they’ll drive the future together – but we think we still cannot see all the potentials there! Office Graph and Delve demonstrate how Microsoft reimagined search and information discovery. They help us not only getting direction in the information jungle but also, to understand Microsoft’s vision and strategy more. In this thought-provoking session, we’ll discuss the real-world challenges everyone has to face in this new era. We’ll discuss the future of information management and enterprise findability, too.
SharePoint expert Agnes Molnar will summarise the outcomes of projects, workshops and webinars that she has undertaken in 2013 to provide an assessment of the lessons learnt from organisations starting to make substantial use of the search capabilities of SharePoint 2013.
The classical “share your documents” approach is outdated. We expect the relevant information coming to us – but nothing else, as we want to avoid Information Overload as much as possible. Microsoft’s new Office Graph and Codename “Oslo” are coming to help us – but are they really the future of discovering and consuming information? In this contrarian session, I’m going to introduce the modern Knowledge Management paradigms and semantic approaches, as well as techniques and methods that can be used. As a key takeaway, attendees will understand how to overcome Information Overload in a proactive way.

SharePoint 2016 Migration Success Takes Three StepsAdam Levithan
Your successful migration to SharePoint 2016 takes three actions: analysis, optimization and planning.
It also takes a lot of questions that require answers. What do you have? What do you move? What do you archive? What problems might occur? What do users expect? From identifying content sprawl, deciding what to archive, understanding potential security risks, ending performance issues and creating an environment that meets end-user expectations, requires many questions that need good answers.
In this session, you’ll learn what to ask and how to find answers: Understand your current environment
Maximizing SharePoint 2016 features
Accurately plan your migration
Reduce risk in your SharePoint migration
SharePoint migrations rarely turn out as you plan them. They are sometimes risky and too often take longer than planned. Over the last 10 years of migrating from SharePoint 2003, 2007, 2010 to the latest versions of SharePoint/Office 365 we’ve seen a consistent theme -- organizations underestimate the complexity and level of effort required for a successful, smooth migration.
Whether you are planning to complete your own migration, or engaging a vendor to assist, this webinar will discuss precautions you can take to avoid the slippery slope experienced in SharePoint migrations.

Search is often considered to be a magical "black box". It's like air or water: we don't recognize it as long as it works fine. But as soon as we don't get the results we expect we start complaining.
In this session, Agnes is de-mystifying Search in SharePoint and Office 365. She'll explain how it works behind the scenes in a way that makes sense not only for the Search Pros but also for the end users.
She'll demonstrate the basic concepts of the following things:
- how content becomes searchable;
- how data becomes filter (refiner), how it can be displayed on the user interface;
- how to define various "search verticals" and specific search applications;
- why is it important to add good metadata on the content AND empower all users to do the same;
- how content metadata becomes the "soul of search";
in classic and personalized search experiences in Office 365: why we have what we have, and how to get the most of this wide variety of search experiences;
- and many more.

KMWorld, Enterprise Search and Discovery 2019
Congratulations! You’ve just been given the responsibility for search at your organization! Perhaps there is a new initiative to improve search, or perhaps the previous search manager mysteriously disappeared. In any case, you’ve discovered that search is a deceptively tricky domain, and that the expectations of many of your stakeholders are difficult to meet or even to define. This workshop provides an orientation and exposure to the key issues, effective processes, and technology—independent of what brand of search engine you use. It provides lay-of-the-land information and approaches to get you off to a good start. Topics include getting started and where to find practical guidance in search management; kinds of tasks and roles involved in managing search; building a cross-functional team; assessing the current state of search; establishing a vision and creating a findability strategy; getting stakeholders together and constructively involved; discovering and managing expectations; top misconceptions about search and how to educate your organization; top five and next five tools and techniques for improving search; updates and improvements; and measuring search: KPIs, tools, and techniques for internal search engine optimization. If you have been in the search manager’s role for a while but feel like you are missing a grounding in successful practices and management techniques, this workshop is still useful.

SharePoint Conference 2019: Microsoft Search in YOUR OrganizationAgnes Molnar
Organizations have invested in their information architecture, as well as 'classic' search, a lot. With the personalized and consolidated Microsoft Search, they are in front of a bright future - however, the content and search strategy has to be aligned.
In this session, Agnes overviews the latest updates, upcoming features and future vision, and helps you to define what, where and why you have to update. She also helps you plan to get the most out of Microsoft Search - both in short and long term
Why You Need to Invest to Search and How to do itAgnes Molnar
Many organizations don’t know what to expect from search, therefore don’t invest into it at all. Many want to have “quick wins” instead of committing to a long-term strategy: they want to implement changes or enhancements that require minimal effort to drive business value in the short term.
On the other hand, Search has to be the part of the company’s business strategy and roadmap, to maximize its long-term business value and benefits. In this workshop, Agnes will provide practical guidance on where to invest your time and resources. For long-term planning, she’ll provide an overview of industry trends and how to establish a value proposition and sell to the business. For your short-term benefits, she helps to set up an action plan which you can implement immediately.

Recognizing these challenges is the first step of a long journey. In this session, I’m introducing proven steps toward being successful with Search, as well as common mistakes, which you can avoid if you’re well prepared.
GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
