What Are
Backlinks
Part I:

Backlinks are any hyperlinks that direct
back to a page on your website.

Why do I need
backlinks?

Backlinks
increase your page rank

Page Rank signifies how important a website or
webpage is. It is based on a 0 –10 scale. 0 is least important and
10 is most important.

Google values sites over others
if they have more sites linking back
to them.

Why is that you may
ask….

…well, Google believes that if
more people are backlinking to
your site, then you must have
some credibility and authority.

How to Get
Backlinks
Part II:

But first let’s explain how to backlink..

When creating backlinks, it is
important to have your anchor text
include keywords you are trying to get
your site to rank for

Anchor text is the clickable text in a
hyperlink.

Example: for this example, our site will be Bankaffilates
Financial affiliate network
Used cars

The purpose of this is to increase your
rank for keywords related to your site

There are many ways to get
backlinks, but we will cover four
ways of backlinking…

Directories

Directories take links to sites
and categorize them by site
topic.

How do I choose a
Directory?

Search for directories with
your site’s topic.
Step one:

Example: Let’s use affiliate networks as an example
https://www.google.com

Choose a few different
directories that you are
interested in.
Step two:

Example:
https://www.google.com

Find the Page Rank (PR) for
each site.
Step three:

You can do this by navigating
to http://www.prchecker.info/ and
inputting each site’s URL.

Example:
http://www.prchecker.info/

Other useful tools:
Open Site Explorer is a free tool
that provides you with information
on who is linking to you or your
competitors website. You can also
use this tool for checking page
authority or PR.
Ahrefs is also a free tool. This site
provides you with detailed analysis
on backlinks for any website.

Once you have the PR for
each site, organize them from
highest to lowest.
Step four:

Example:
http://www.prchecker.info/

Choose the directories with the
highest PR.
*don’t choose directories with PR lower than 3. For this
example, all of these directories would be helpful.
Step five:

Avoid directories with low PR or
directories that will hurt your PR!

Once you have a directory in
mind, apply to it!
Step six:

Blog comments

Posting comments on a blog is a
great way to build backlinks!
But…

You should find a blog that is:
(a) Related in topic to your blog
(b) and has dofollow links in their
comment section

What is dofollow?

Dofollow is html code that
tells Google to count a backlink
to your site’s page rank.

Nofollow tells Google not to
count the backlink towards your
PR.

But how do I know if a
site has dofollow
comment links?

Navigate to the selected
blog’s comment section.
Step one:

Example:

Right click the name of one of
the previous commenters and
select “inspect element.”
*the name should be a hyperlink
Step two:

Find where it says “rel=”
Step three:

What follows will either be dofollow or
nofollow. This tells you whether or not
a blog’s comments section posts
comment links as dofollow.
Step four:

If the html code does not have
“rel=”, then it is dofollow.
note:

You want to comment on dofollow
blogs because those will increase
your PR.
But…

Do not only focus on getting dofollow
comments. Google wants to see a
healthy mix of dofollow and nofollow
links to your site.

Guest blog posts

You can receive high-quality backlinks
by producing content for someone
else’s blog!

This is similar to blog commenting in
that you want to choose a site that is
closely related to your site’s topic.
Step one:

Once you’ve found a blog that you
want to write for, read through their
entire site.
Step two:

But why?

You want to understand the audience
you are writing for in order to produce
quality content.

Come up with a topic that you think
would be fit well into the blog.
Step three:

Contact the person that runs the blog.
Inform them of your blog idea and
express how you think it would fit into
their site.
Step four:

If you get approved, then write the
post and have it uploaded to the site.
Step five:

Link bait

Link bait is any developed content that
is shared throughout the internet that
links back to your site.

Examples:
Infographics Top 10 lists Presentations

If you create intelligent, comical or
compelling content, you will see your
content bring you backlinks!

Useful tool for infographics
Infogr.am is a site that allows you to plan and create
your own inforgraphics.

Useful tool for Top 10 lists
Listverse is a site that displays top 10 lists and it also
allows you to upload your own.

Useful tool for Presentations
Slideshare is a site that allows you to upload your own
presentations and share them.
