This document contains information from a Strong Girls Strong Women Symposium held at Centennial College, including: 1. Survey results from Centennial ECE students showing most are satisfied with their appearance but rarely discuss self-esteem. Half said other's negative comments impact their self-esteem. 2. Interview with an elementary school teacher about a student who had cosmetic surgery and questions about beauty and self-esteem. 3. Survey results from 9-14 year olds showing lower self-esteem levels than the ECE students, with less agreeing they have someone to talk to or that they are worthy individuals.

 Having positive regard about ourselves in realistic ways.
 Young children today stress too much about their outside
appearance.
 Embrace yourself.
 There are many sources available to help.
 There's always going to be a battle to be yourself.
 Society sends messages to young children to be someone they
can’t be.
 Self- Esteem affects the overall health of the developing child.
