The SRST series shunt regulators are designed to work with regenerative servo drives to dissipate excess energy during braking, preventing the drive from shutting off due to overvoltage. They connect a power resistor across the DC bus to dissipate energy when the bus voltage reaches the shunt voltage setting. Models are available with different shunt voltage ratings and capacitor sizes to accommodate drives up to 400 volts.

Load Break Elbows
A load break elbow when used with a hot stick can be connected or disconnected at high voltage under load, but can only be used with up to a 250kcmil cable. At 100% insulation level, a 250kcmil is good for 345A in underground duct, so you would be de-rating your system by using a 200A elbow with a 250kcmil cable, but they are still widely used due to the flexibility given to the high voltage distribution system at the equipment. Think about it…if you had a critical application where power disruptions were extremely costly and maintenance was required on up-stream equipment in, let’s say a non critical area, this product would be great. You could disconnect the load without disturbing the critical portions, perform the maintenance and then reconnect it. Just make sure to take safety precautions, making and breaking electrical connections under load is very dangerous. The load break elbow is typically not used in man-holes, because it does not allow expansion like the dead break elbow. The construction of the load break elbow does not allow it to be connected to other elbows, but the dead break does.
Dead Break Elbows
A dead break or “hammerhead” elbow can only be disconnected when not under load, this is because you need to actually unscrew a pin to detach it. It would be pretty tough to unscrew the pin with a hot stick and the arc from the disconnected load, if under load, would be pretty substantial. A dead break elbow allows an increased current rating (up to 600A) and can be used on basically all cable types. At 100% insulation level a 750kcmil cable is rated 610A in underground duct. When would you use a 750kcmil? In most non-utility cases you would design or install sets of 500kcmil or smaller if you needed more than one 500kcmil could handle. Even from a 1200A breaker, two sets of 500kcmil per phase would be sufficient for distribution (about 1000A), if the load was even that high. Most of the time you set the relays down to the actual load in order to limit the copper used. A dead break when used in man-holes for splicing cables allows the flexibility of connecting more than two cables together as well as future expansion if required. Say another building was added that needed power, you could just connect that building to the existing array of dead break elbows. This also works great when temporary power is needed for construction or even if the circus is in town and they need medium voltage (it happens!). They can pick up power from the man-hole with the dead break elbows or from a piece of equipment with dead break elbows. I’ve heard that ships are now starting to use medium voltage shore power, I wonder what kind of connections they use.

Conception of a water level detector (tide gauge) based on a electromagnetic ...eSAT Journals
Abstract The mechanism that we propose is a water level sensor (Tide-Gauge), using the Archimedes principle, according to which a body immersed in a fluid in equilibrium, subjected to on behalf of this one a thrust which the intensity is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced. It is composed of an electromagnetic sensor forces of which is suspended a plunger cylindrical glass. The latter is partially introduced into a measuring cylinder filled with water. The electromagnetic sensor of forces allows us to measure the difference between the weight of the cylinder and the force due to the buoyancy exerted by the water on the submerged part of the cylinder. When the water level in the test piece changes it is implied by a variation of the submerged portion of the cylinder, and causes a variation of the buoyancy, as a consequence of variation of the force exerted on the sensor. The electromagnetic sensor allows the conversion of this force into a voltage by the intermediate of an electronic circuit. Key Words: Electromagnetic Sensor of Force, Water Level Detector, Tide-Gauge.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Advanced motion controls srst70
1. SHUNT REGULATORS
Shunt Regulators
The SRST Series shunt regulator assemblies are designed
to work with ADVANCED Motion Controls’ four quadrant
regenerative servo drives. During braking most of the
stored mechanical energy is fed back into the power supply,
which charges the output capacitor to a higher voltage. If
the charge reaches the drive’s over-voltage shutdown
point, motor control and braking will cease. To ensure
smooth braking of large inertial loads the use of a shunt-regulator
is recommended. Verify the need for a shunt
regulator by operating the drive under the worst case
braking condition. If the drive shuts off due to over-voltage
(blinking red LED) a shunt regulator is necessary (typically
during downward move or deceleration).

When the DC Bus reaches the shunt voltage of the shunt
regulator assembly, the voltage comparator unit turns on
the electronic switch, which connects the R1 power resistor
across the DC Bus. This power resistor dissipates the
energy from the DC Bus. After the bus voltage is reduced to
less than the shunt voltage setting the resistor is
disconnected from the bus. A small hysterisis loop allows
time between switching. The SRST assemblies are available
with standard shunt voltages of 50, 70, 80, 90, 175, 185,
380, and 400 volts.
Models SRST50, 70, 80, 90, 175, 185 are designed for
use with servo drives up to 200 volts. These models have a
200 VDC, 1200 μF filter capacitor in them.
Models SRST380 and SRST400 are designed for use with
servo drives up to 400 volts. These models have a 450
VDC, 330 μF filter capacitor in them.

Small Size, Low Cost, Ease of Use
Agency Approvals
US and Canadian safety compliance with
UL 508c, the industrial standard for power
conversion electronics. UL registered under
file number E140173. Note that machine
components compliant with UL are
considered UL registered as opposed to UL
listed, as would be the case for commercial
products.
Compliant with European CE for both the
Class A EMC Directive 2004/108/EC on
Electromagnetic Compatibility (specifically
EN 61000-6-4:2007 and EN 61000-6-
2:2005) and LVD requirements of directive
2006/95/EC (specifically EN 60204-1:2006),
a low voltage directive to protect users from
electrical shock.
RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous
Substances) is intended to prevent
hazardous substances such as lead from
being manufactured in electrical and
electronic equipment.
