ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is a type of DSL technology that allows users to access the internet and make phone calls simultaneously over the same copper telephone line. It evolved from early 19th century ideas of using telephone lines for data transmission. Joseph Lechleider is credited with advancing the necessary technology in the late 20th century. ADSL is useful for both home and business use, allowing multiple devices to share a single internet connection at faster speeds than dial-up. While it has advantages like cost and simultaneous phone/internet use, ADSL also has limitations such as short transmission distances and potential interference issues.
