Adjectives and Order of Adjectives
I. Adjectives: describe the nouns.
1. Adjectives always come before nouns.
Ex: young boys
2. Adjectives can follow linking verbs
Ex: The children are happy.
3. Adjectives can be compound.
Ex: Two-year-old boy
4. Nouns can be adjectives
Ex: English book
5. -ing and –ed words can be adjectives
Ex: Swimming pool bored students
6. Order of Adjectives
In English, it is common to use more than one adjective to describe a noun. These adjectives must be used
in the proper order.
Ex: Here is a beautiful, red, cloth flag.
Why does beautiful come before red?
Why does red come before cloth?
