This document presents a new software-based dead-time compensator for grid-connected PV inverters that uses predictive current controllers. It reviews a nonlinear dead-time disturbance model to generate a feed-forward compensation signal that eliminates current distortion around zero crossings caused by clamping effects. It also proposes a novel closed-loop adaptive scheme to fine tune the compensation model parameters in real time, ensuring accuracy under highly varying operating conditions in PV systems due to changing insolation, temperature and shadowing. Experimental results from a 5kW PV system prototype demonstrate its effectiveness.

The proposed topology is based on pulse widthmodulation buck rectifier (current source inverter topology) and is capable of rectification and stepping down of single-phase ac supply, in a single stage. A new control scheme is proposed to achieve constant dc output voltage and sinusoidal source current, irrespective of large ripples in the dc inductor current. The proposed scheme is configured in single-loop voltage control mode. The relevant small-signal model is derived from the large-signal model using multi order decomposition. An elaborate procedure of dc filter design is discussed, for circuit operation with minimum energy storage. All analytical results are validated by numerical simulation for sinusoidal and distorted source voltage. Experimental verification is achieved through a 1.2-kW grid-connected laboratory prototype.

The Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) technology is a promising technology to achieve complete deregulation of Power System i.e. Generation, Transmission and Distribution as the complete individual units. FACTS is based on power electronic devices, used to enhance the existing transmission capabilities in order to make the transmission system flexible and independent in operation. The loading capability of transmission system can also be enhanced nearer to its thermal limit without affecting the stability. Complete closed-loop smooth control of reactive power can be achieved using shunt connected FACTS devices. Static VAR Compensator (SVC) is one of the shunt connected FACTS devices, which can be utilized for the purpose of reactive power compensation. As the Intelligent FACTS devices make them adaptable, it is emerging as the present state of the art technology. This paper presents the design and simulation of the Fuzzy logic control to vary firing angle of SVC in order to achieve better, smooth and adaptive control of reactive power in transmission systems. The design, modeling and simulations are carried out for the λ/8 Transmission line by placing the compensation at the receiving end (load end) and the results obtained demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Cascaded Open-End Winding Transformer based DVR
This paper introduces and generalizes a class of multilevel dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) for voltage sags/swells compensation of high-power sensitive loads. Such a device can improve the power quality of sensitive loads located in stiff systems. The proposed DVR is based on three-phase bridge converters series-connected by means of cascaded transformers using the concept of open-end winding (OEW). Hence, two DC links can provide either symmetrical (i.e., equal DC-link voltages) or asymmetrical (i.e., different DC-link voltages) operation of the DVR converters. Generalization for K-stages is presented as well. The proposed configuration is named as DVR-COEW (i.e., cascaded open-end winding). Such a topology permits to generate a maximized number of voltage levels per converter leg. The multilevel waveforms at the output voltages of the converter are generated by using a suitable PWM strategy associated with both: i) DC-link voltages ratio and ii) transformers turns ratio. Modularity and simple maintenance make the proposed DVRCOEW an attractive solution compared to some conventional configurations. The model and PWM control are addressed in this paper. Simulation and experimental results are presented.

This paper proposes control strategies for mega watt level direct-drive wind generation systems based on permanent magnet synchronous generators. In the paper, a circulating current model is derived and analyzed. The parallel-operation controllers are designed to restrain reactive power circulation and beat frequency circulation currents caused by discontinuous space vector modulation. The control schemes do not change the configurations of the system consisting of parallel multiple converters. They are easy to implement for modular designs and large impedance required to equalize the current sharing is not needed. To increase the system reliability, a robust adaptive sliding observer is designed to sense the rotor position of the wind power generator. The experimental results proved the effectiveness of the control strategies.

This paper presents an adaptive control algorithm called improved linear sinusoidal tracer (ILST) for a three-phase distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) to perform different functions like power factor correction, harmonics elimination, load balancing, and voltage regulation under linear and nonlinear loads. A prototype DSTATCOM is developed using a digital signal processor to test the control algorithm in real-time. The performance of the DSTATCOM with the proposed ILST control algorithm is found to be satisfactory under various load conditions.

The loading capability of transmission system can also be enhanced nearer to its thermal limit without affecting the stability. Complete closed-loop smooth control of reactive power can be achieved using shunt connected FACTS devices. Static VAR Compensator (SVC) is one of the shunt connected FACTS devices, which can be utilized for the purpose of reactive power compensation. As the Intelligent FACTS devices make them adaptable, it is emerging as the present state of the art technology. This paper presents the design and simulation of the Fuzzy logic control to vary firing angle of SVC in order to achieve better, smooth and adaptive control of reactive power in transmission systems. The design, modeling and simulations are carried out for the λ/8 Transmission line by placing the compensation at the receiving end (load end) and the results obtained demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Cascaded Open-End Winding Transformer based DVR
This paper introduces and generalizes a class of multilevel dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) for voltage sags/swells compensation of high-power sensitive loads. Such a device can improve the power quality of sensitive loads located in stiff systems. The proposed DVR is based on three-phase bridge converters series-connected by means of cascaded transformers using the concept of open-end winding (OEW). Hence, two DC links can provide either symmetrical (i.e., equal DC-link voltages) or asymmetrical (i.e., different DC-link voltages) operation of the DVR converters. Generalization for K-stages is presented as well. The proposed configuration is named as DVR-COEW (i.e., cascaded open-end winding). Such a topology permits to generate a maximized number of voltage levels per converter leg. The multilevel waveforms at the output voltages of the converter are generated by using a suitable PWM strategy associated with both: i) DC-link voltages ratio and ii) transformers turns ratio. Modularity and simple maintenance make the proposed DVRCOEW an attractive solution compared to some conventional configurations. The model and PWM control are addressed in this paper. Simulation and experimental results are presented.

This paper proposes control strategies for mega watt level direct-drive wind generation systems based on permanent magnet synchronous generators. In the paper, a circulating current model is derived and analyzed. The parallel-operation controllers are designed to restrain reactive power circulation and beat frequency circulation currents caused by discontinuous space vector modulation. The control schemes do not change the configurations of the system consisting of parallel multiple converters. They are easy to implement for modular designs and large impedance required to equalize the current sharing is not needed. To increase the system reliability, a robust adaptive sliding observer is designed to sense the rotor position of the wind power generator. The experimental results proved the effectiveness of the control strategies.

Adaptive Control Scheme for PV Based Induction Machine
An adaptive control scheme for maximum power point tracking of a single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic system is presented. The difficulty on design a controller that may operate a photovoltaic system on its maximum power point (MPP) is that, this MPP depends on temperature and solar irradiance, ambient conditions that are time-varying and difficult to measure. A solution using an on-line sliding mode estimator is presented. It estimates three different parameters that depend on solar irradiance and temperature, eliminating the necessity of having any sensor for these environmental variables. It is capable of estimate time-varying parameters. A complete analysis was done taking into account the non-linearity’s showed by the closed-loop system. An adaptive law was found to substitute a perturbation bound and also to eliminate possible chattering due to the discontinuous controller term. Computer simulations are presented to show the good performance of the controller. The controller detects the deviation of the actual trajectory from the reference trajectory and corresponding changes the switching strategy to restore the tracking. Prominent characteristics such as invariance, robustness, order reduction, and control chattering are discussed in detail. Methods for coping with chattering are presented. Both linear and nonlinear systems are considered The proposed concept can be implemented to adaptive control scheme for induction machine using Matlab/Simulink software.
Single-Phase Grid-tied Transformerless Inverter of Zero Leakage Current for P...
Multi-level transformerless inverters are widely used in grid-tied PV systems since they characterized by higher efficiency and lower cost. In this context, new topologies, modulation, and control schemes were presented to solve problems of a common-mode voltage and leakage current. This work proposes a transformerless five-level inverter with zero leakage current and ability to reduce the harmonic output content for a grid-tied single-phase PV system. The neutral of the grid links to a common on which the negative and the positive terminals of the DC-link are connected via parasitic capacitors that can eliminate the leakage current. The proposed topology, with its inherent circuit structure, leads to boost the overall efficiency. Simulation and experimental results show almost zero leakage current and a high-quality output when maintaining balanced capacitor voltages on the DC-link input. The experimental results show 1.07% THD and 96.3 % maximum efficiency when injecting a power of 1.1 kW that verify the performance of the proposed inverter with PV sources.

This document compares different control strategies for exchanging frequency support between AC power systems connected by a multi-terminal HVDC grid. It studies synthetic inertia control using frequency derivative input, classical frequency droop control, and an integrated synthetic inertia emulation control scheme. Time domain simulations show the impact of these controls on both HVDC grid voltage response and AC system frequency stability. Frequency droop control improves one AC system's frequency at the cost of disturbance to the other. Integrated synthetic inertia emulation control facilitates primary frequency reserve exchange similarly to droop control. The control strategies allow artificial coupling of HVDC-connected AC systems for frequency support.

The reliability, efficiency, and controllability of Photo Voltaic power systems can be increased by embedding the components of a Boost Converter. Currently, the converter technology overcomes the main problems of manufacturing cost, efficiency and mass production. Issue to limit the life span of a Photo Voltaic inverter is the huge electrolytic capacitor across the Direct Current bus for energy decoupling. This paper presents a two-phase interleaved boost converter which ensures 180 angle phase shift between the two interleaved converters. The Proportional Integral controller is used to reshape that the controller attempts to minimize the error by adjusting the control inputs and also real coded genetic algorithm is proposed for tuning of controlling parameters of Proportional Integral controller. The real coded genetic algorithm is applied in the Interleaved Boost Converter with Advanced Pulse Width Modulation Techniques for improving the results of efficiency and reduction of ripple current. Simulation results illustrate the improvement of efficiency and the diminution of ripple current.

This paper introduces a novel direct current to direct current (DC-DC) buck converter that uses a pseudo-current hysteresis controller and an on-chip soft start circuit for improved transient performance in automotive applications. The proposed converter, implemented with Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company (TSMC) 0.18 µm complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) one-poly-six-metal (1P6M) technology, includes a rail-to-rail current detection circuit and an on-chip soft start circuit to handle transient responses and improve efficiency. Transient response analysis shows fast settling times of 28 µs for both load current changes from 100 mA to 1 A and reversals with consistent transient voltages of approximately 190 mV and peak power efficiency of 99.32% at 5 V output voltage and 100 mA load current. Additionally, the converter maintains a constant output voltage of approximately 5 V across the entire load current range with an average accuracy of 90.41%. A comparative analysis with previous work shows superior performance in terms of figure of merit (FOM). Overall, the proposed pseudo-current hysteresis controlled buck converter exhibits remarkable transient response, load regulation and power efficiency, positioning it as a promising solution for demanding applications, particularly in automotive systems where precise voltage regulation is crucial.

This paper proposes a hybrid wireless mesh network (WMN) architecture that allows the backbone to utilize random connections to access points (APs) in a wireless local area network (WLAN). Theoretical analysis shows that the capacity of a three-tier hybrid WMN is affected by the number of mesh router cells connected to APs, the ratio of access link bandwidth to backbone link bandwidth, and traffic balance among routers with AP access. - 1. ADAPTIVE DEAD-TIMES COMPENSATION FOR GRID-CONNECTED PWM INVERTERS OF SINGLE STAGE PV SYSTEMS ABSTRACT: This study presents a new software-based plug-in dead-time compensator for grid-connected pulsewidth modulated voltage-source inverters of single-stage photovoltaic (PV) systems using predictive current controllers (PCCs) to regulate phase currents. First, a nonlinear dead-time disturbance model is reviewed, which is then used for the generation of a feed-forward compensation signal that eliminates the current distortion associated with current clamping effects around zero-current crossing points. A novel closed-loop adaptive adjustment scheme is proposed for fine tuning in real time the compensation model parameters, thereby ensuring accurate results even under the highly varying operating conditions typically found in PV systems due to insolation, temperature, and shadowing effects, among others. The algorithm implementation is straightforward and computationally efficient, and can be easily attached to an existent PCC to enhance its dead-time rejection capability without modifying its internal structure. Experimental results with a 5-kW PV system prototype are presented.
