The industrial control market involves the monitoring and control aspects of both complex and simple processes. Common trends within the industry, notably the drive for increased efficiencies, better robustness, higher channel densities, and faster monitoring and control speeds, subsequently drive new technology advancements for semiconductor manufacturers. This session aims to give a broad overview into the system requirements for both field instruments (sensors/actuators) and control room (analog input/output) modules, and demonstrates a typical I/O module configuration with HART (highway addressable remote transducer) connectivity.

Bacharach’s advanced MGS-550 gas detector can utilize any combination of sensor technologies, including electrochemical, semiconductor (MOS), catalytic bead or infrared, in a single platform for unparalleled detection capability. The MGS-550 can easily be connected to any central control system using the current and volt analog output or the Modbus RTU interface. With three user assignable relays, it can also function as a stand-alone unit without the need to wire alarm devices back to a central system.
The straightforward menu structure is identical throughout the platform reducing the amount of training required for installing and maintaining this product family. At any point in time, the instrument can be upgraded from a one sensor to a two sensor system by simply registering another sensor. The MGS-550 is furnished with two analog outputs which can be assigned as redundant for one or for transmit the signal of two sensors.

Low Profile Intelligent Detector
Addressable Devices
General
The AD355(A) ADAPT® detector is an intelligent, address-
able, multi-sensing, low-profile detector designed for use with
Fire•Lite Fire Alarm Control Panels.
The ADAPT detector uses a combination of photoelectric and
thermal sensing technologies to increase immunity to false
alarms. Unlike traditional intelligent detectors, the ADAPT
detector has a microprocessor in the detector head that pro-
cesses alarm data. As a result, the ADAPT detector adjusts its
sensitivity automatically, without operator intervention or con-
