IEEE 802.15.4
There is a great variety of wireless technologies, each of which aim of satisfying the different
requirements of the users and their applications. The activities of INETSIS focus on using
wireless technology applied to monitoring and control tools, taking into account the cost of the
devices and their low power consumption. One of the wireless technologies that INETSIS
works with is the Wireless Sensor and Actuator Network (WSAN).
A network of wireless sensors and actuators (WSAN) is a distributed system consisting of a
large number of small sensor and actuator nodes, which makes it possible to monitor and
control an environment.
Each of the sensor nodes allows environmental or physical conditions (such as temperature,
humidity, sounds, pressure, vibration, etc.) to be monitored and transmits the data to a base
station that collects all the information from the nodes to be processed and to be able to draw
conclusions from the environment. Thanks to the actuators, the state of the environment where
the network is deployed can be modified on-site.

RFID Technology (Radio-Frequency Identification)
INETSIS works with another wireless technology known as RFID, Radio-Frequency Identification. The biggest
advantage of RFID technology lies in the ability to read the information contained in a label (tag) without requiring
physical contact between the reader and the tag. RFID technology represents the development of the bar code,
which allows for a greater distance between the reader and the tag, in addition, it is able to record and re-record
information therein, unlike the simple bar codes.
An RFID system is based on FRID tags and readers. The readers are generally the devices that initiate the
identification process and also have the ability to write data on the tags.
The tags comprise a radio transceiver and a small memory in which information can be stored. This tag is
affixed to the products and may be read using a handheld reader device, as they are able to respond with the
stored information when stimulated with suitable electromagnetic radiation, for which a tag reader is being used.
RFID tags are usually classified according to the working frequency (LF, HF, UHF and microwaves) and whether
or not they have their own power supply (passive, active or semi-passive tags).Apart from this, there are different
types of labels according to the shape and material in which they are integrated, memory capacity, etc.
In passive RFID technology, if you want to access the contents of the tag, you just have to bring the reader
within range, which sends a signal that activates the tag. The tag will return its ID and its contents. Active RFID
tags also exist, but are powered by a small battery, which increases its reading range from several meters (pas-
sive tags) to several dozen meters (active tags). A similar process is followed for recording a label, the only dif-
ference is that the reader sends the data to be recorded and the position selected.
RFID technology is increasingly present in all sectors that deal with product identification, localisation and pro-
cess control.

CoralSTOCK Software
18
CoralSTOCK® SW is a system that automatically controls assets such as IT equipment, lab
equipment, clinical equipment or furniture. Based on RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
technology, it enables inventory to be taken quickly at any time. The tags used allow information
about any items to be stored, thereby improving the company’s knowledge of their current stock
as well as their features. This allows the traceability of the items to be increased and makes it
possible to reliably and physically track these items.
CoralSTOCK® SW includes the following capabilities:
• Classification of items that can be configured in order to fulfill customers needs and demands,
• The software allows queries to be made about stock and products and any differences between
inventories to be made known.
• Reports and alarms are generated as a result of expected events (expiration date, shipping
date, removal from storage, etc).
• Different user profiles are supported with different rights and access levels.
• Items can be added and removed by tagging them and using either the handheld reader or
the fixed reader.
• Historical logs of at least three years can be shown.
CoralSTOCK® SW is designed with a graphical user interface targeted at non-expert users and
was developed to facilitate integration with corporative ERP systems (such as, but not limited to,
SAP R/3).
User/Customer benefits:
• Easy and efficient inventory management of storage
facilities, equipments, machinery, furniture, etc.
• Improvement in management, with the subsequent
savings in time and costs.
• Increase in product traceability.

  • 2. Software-Intensive Systems Engineering (INETSIS) We are a technology-based company, whose mission is to improve the competitiveness of ours clients through innovation, by offering products and services based on wireless technology. We have developed Coral2K®, a HW/SW solution that allows any environment to be monitored or controlled through a wireless sensor and actuator network (WSAN). Coral2K® adapts to the needs of each client and can be applied in fields as diverse as the support to independent life, safety in hostile work environments, improvement in energy efficiency or logistic and industrial management. Through our highly qualified team, we offer software engineering services such as the development of subsystems and HW/SW components, systems integration of devices, test bed development and custom development of complex ITC solutions. We have extensive experience at INETSIS in developing R&D projects. We have developed projects with other companies and administrations at regional, national, European and international levels. • 4. IEEE 802.15.4 There is a great variety of wireless technologies, each of which aim of satisfying the different requirements of the users and their applications. The activities of INETSIS focus on using wireless technology applied to monitoring and control tools, taking into account the cost of the devices and their low power consumption. One of the wireless technologies that INETSIS works with is the Wireless Sensor and Actuator Network (WSAN). A network of wireless sensors and actuators (WSAN) is a distributed system consisting of a large number of small sensor and actuator nodes, which makes it possible to monitor and control an environment. Each of the sensor nodes allows environmental or physical conditions (such as temperature, humidity, sounds, pressure, vibration, etc.) to be monitored and transmits the data to a base station that collects all the information from the nodes to be processed and to be able to draw conclusions from the environment. Thanks to the actuators, the state of the environment where the network is deployed can be modified on-site. • •4‡ ‡
  • 5. • • Coral2K® Software 1/2 Coral2K® SW allows any environment to be monitored and control by means of wireless technology. The CORAL2K® platform communicates with the environment through the CoralGW® device which, in turn, is connected to a network of wireless sensors and actuators. This software has been completely developed by INETSIS®. Coral2K® SW includes the following capabilities: Connection Management Connection insertion/deletion/modification/listing. Manual connection/disconnection. User Management User insertion/deletion/modification/listing. Role insertion/deletion/modification/listing. Network Management Gateway insertion/deletion/modification/listing. Wireless mote insertion/deletion/modification/listing. Wireless mote group insertion/deletion/modification/ listing. Network status Routing path display. Wireless mote status display. Rules/Actions Management Rule insertion/deletion/modification/listing. Action insertion/deletion/modification/listing. 5 Telecommand Management Command sending. Command sending status verification. Historical data Management TM packet history retrieval. TC packet history retrieval. Reports and Statistics Management Text-based statistics generation. Graphical statistics generation. File generation in different forms (.pdf, .csv, etc.). Logging System events logging. Software events logging. Continuous display of logged events. ‡ ‡

  • 17. RFID Technology (Radio-Frequency Identification) INETSIS works with another wireless technology known as RFID, Radio-Frequency Identification. The biggest advantage of RFID technology lies in the ability to read the information contained in a label (tag) without requiring physical contact between the reader and the tag. RFID technology represents the development of the bar code, which allows for a greater distance between the reader and the tag, in addition, it is able to record and re-record information therein, unlike the simple bar codes. An RFID system is based on FRID tags and readers. The readers are generally the devices that initiate the identification process and also have the ability to write data on the tags. The tags comprise a radio transceiver and a small memory in which information can be stored. This tag is affixed to the products and may be read using a handheld reader device, as they are able to respond with the stored information when stimulated with suitable electromagnetic radiation, for which a tag reader is being used. RFID tags are usually classified according to the working frequency (LF, HF, UHF and microwaves) and whether or not they have their own power supply (passive, active or semi-passive tags).Apart from this, there are different types of labels according to the shape and material in which they are integrated, memory capacity, etc. In passive RFID technology, if you want to access the contents of the tag, you just have to bring the reader within range, which sends a signal that activates the tag. The tag will return its ID and its contents. Active RFID tags also exist, but are powered by a small battery, which increases its reading range from several meters (pas- sive tags) to several dozen meters (active tags). A similar process is followed for recording a label, the only dif- ference is that the reader sends the data to be recorded and the position selected. RFID technology is increasingly present in all sectors that deal with product identification, localisation and pro- cess control. • •17‡ ‡

This allows the traceability of the items to be increased and makes it possible to reliably and physically track these items. CoralSTOCK® SW includes the following capabilities: • Classification of items that can be configured in order to fulfill customers needs and demands, • The software allows queries to be made about stock and products and any differences between inventories to be made known. • Reports and alarms are generated as a result of expected events (expiration date, shipping date, removal from storage, etc). • Different user profiles are supported with different rights and access levels. • Items can be added and removed by tagging them and using either the handheld reader or the fixed reader. • Historical logs of at least three years can be shown. CoralSTOCK® SW is designed with a graphical user interface targeted at non-expert users and was developed to facilitate integration with corporative ERP systems (such as, but not limited to, SAP R/3).
