Daylight in patient rooms can significantly improve patient outcomes and reduce costs. Studies show that rooms with more daylight can reduce average hospital stays by 16-41% and reduce patient pain levels and analgesic medication use, lowering medication costs by 22%. Daylight has also been shown to reduce depression, improve sleep and circadian rhythms, and benefit overall patient and staff well-being. While daylight provides benefits, proper controls are needed to avoid glare and overheating issues that can negatively impact patients.
This document summarizes several sources on the use of kinesiology taping. The sources discuss research that has found kinesiology taping can reduce pain from contractions and lymphedema in breast cancer patients. Additional research discussed found that kinesiology taping can improve joint position sense after muscle fatigue and help recovery from occupational wrist disorders in physical therapists. One source discussed a study that found kinesiology taping decreased upper back pain in female sedentary workers with rounded shoulder posture. Another source described a randomized controlled trial that found a mixed kinesiology taping-compression technique reduced venous symptoms, pain, and clinical severity in postmenopausal women with chronic venous insufficiency.

Acupuncture: Safety and Efficacy of AcupunctureKatie Karns
Early research into acupuncture began in the 1970s in the United States and showed it to be a relatively safe medical procedure. However, safety concerns include practitioner negligence and use of unsterilized needles which could spread disease. Acupuncture has been proven effective for treating low back pain, asthma, postoperative dental pain, fibromyalgia, and osteoarthritis based on studies including a German study showing 48% of patients had a positive response after 10 acupuncture sessions compared to 27% for conventional treatment. Precautions are recommended during pregnancy and for those taking blood thinners.
The document summarizes 10 research breakthroughs from the last decade that support chiropractic care. Some of the key findings include:
1) Seeing a chiropractor as a first contact provider was associated with decreases in hospital admissions, days, surgeries, and pharmaceutical costs compared to conventional medicine.
2) One study found that upper cervical chiropractic care was associated with marked and sustained reductions in blood pressure similar to two-drug combination therapy.
3) A wellness program implemented by chiropractors improved various health metrics such as weight, blood pressure, and strength.
The document concludes that these and other studies provide evidence that chiropractic care can positively impact multiple dimensions

The document discusses the concept of progressive mobility, which involves early ambulation of ICU patients starting on the first day. It outlines the benefits of early mobility such as improved morale, health, and faster recovery times. Additionally, it discusses how prolonged immobility can lead to physical disabilities, weakness, and inability to return to work. The document then describes the components and goals of progressive mobility programs, which include head of bed elevation, verticalization techniques like tilt tables, standing, and walking training. It provides evidence that early and frequent mobilization can safely be achieved in the ICU with positive outcomes such as better functional status and lower complication rates.
The document summarizes four large research trials conducted in Germany between 2000-2006 that investigated the efficacy, effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and safety of acupuncture treatment for chronic low back pain, osteoarthritis, migraine, and tension headaches. The trials showed that acupuncture was effective for treating these chronic conditions and had acceptable cost-effectiveness. Sham acupuncture, involving superficial needling at non-acupuncture points, was also found to be effective and not significantly different from real acupuncture or standard drug-based treatments. Based on these results, German health authorities decided in 2006 to include acupuncture reimbursement for chronic low back pain and osteoarthritis.
I. Therapeutic ultrasound is used to treat musculoskeletal issues like inflammation by generating heat through sound waves. While it may help some patients, there is little scientific evidence that it is reliably effective.
II. A review of 38 studies found little evidence to support the use of ultrasound for musculoskeletal disorders. Only 2 of 10 well-designed trials found it more effective than placebo for specific conditions.
III. While ultrasound appears safe and may provide benefits for some patients, more high-quality research is still needed to scientifically validate its therapeutic effects.
1) The document describes a study that examined the effectiveness of Action Potential Simulation (APS) Therapy in reducing pain for 60 people with multiple sclerosis (MS) over an 8-week period.
2) APS Therapy uses micro-currents to simulate nerve cell action potentials and is thought to help reduce pain and inflammation. In the study, participants received APS Therapy 3 times per week for 8 minutes each time.
3) Results found that APS Therapy significantly reduced usual and worst pain levels according to Visual Analogue Scale scores, with 78% of participants reporting reduced pain and 33% becoming pain-free. Common types of pain like back pain, joint pain, and neuropathic pain all saw significant reductions.

The document summarizes the history and development of osteopathic medicine from its founding in the 1800s by Andrew Taylor Still to its current practice. It describes how Still was dissatisfied with conventional medicine of the time and sought to develop a scientific, natural treatment system based on manipulating the musculoskeletal system. It traces the challenges osteopathic medicine faced gaining acceptance, the expansion of its schools and practice areas over time, and how it has integrated certain conventional medical practices while retaining Still's core principles.
This document provides guidelines for managing occupational low back pain using a combined occupational medicine and physical therapy approach. It lists factors that indicate higher probabilities of success with various treatments like coordination/stabilization exercises, directional preference exercises, and manipulation plus exercise. It also discusses classifying patients into low, medium, and high risk of chronicity using tools like the STarT Back Tool and assessing red flags. The usual care of NSAIDs and encouraging normal activities is noted to have a high recurrence rate. A biopsychosocial approach including cognitive behavioral techniques and therapeutic neuroscience education is recommended for high risk patients.
This document summarizes a presentation on integrating osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) and acupuncture for a case of low back pain. It provides background on the prevalence of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) use in the US. It then describes OMT techniques like soft tissue work and muscle energy that were demonstrated for low back pain. It also reviews the evidence and safety of acupuncture and integrates it as a potential treatment option.
This document presents information on early mobilization for ICU patients. It defines mobilization as physical activity that improves hemodynamic parameters and counters the effects of bed rest. Early mobilization refers to activity within the first 2-5 days of critical illness. The benefits of early mobilization include reduced ICU and hospital stays, faster recovery of respiratory and muscle strength, and lower rates of delirium. The document outlines parameters and safety criteria for passive and active mobilization. Common barriers to early mobilization in the ICU include patient instability, limited staff and equipment, and deep sedation of patients.
This study examined the effects of music therapy versus benzodiazepines in reducing anxiety in patients undergoing MRI scans. A literature review found 4 relevant studies, including 1 systematic review, 1 randomized controlled trial, 1 phenomenology study, and 1 survey. The evidence showed no significant trends of decreased anxiety with music therapy. However, patients with live music therapy had fewer repeated scans and less time to complete scans. Further research is still needed to fully understand the impacts of music therapy and benzodiazepines on anxiety during MRIs, using standardized measurement tools.
The document summarizes a systematic review that analyzed 15 randomized controlled trials on the use of acupuncture and related techniques for postoperative pain management. The review found that acupuncture was associated with significant reductions in postoperative opioid consumption, pain intensity, and opioid-related side effects such as nausea, dizziness, and sedation, compared to sham controls. Specifically, acupuncture reduced opioid use by 23-29 mg at 8-72 hours postoperatively and decreased pain scores at 8 and 72 hours. The studies involved a variety of surgeries and acupuncture methods.
This randomized controlled trial compared the effectiveness of spinal manipulation therapy (SMT), medication, and home exercise with advice (HEA) for acute and subacute neck pain. The trial found that:
1) SMT had a statistically significant advantage over medication in reducing pain up to 1 year after treatment based on participant-reported pain levels.
2) HEA was as effective as SMT, with no important differences in pain reduction between the two treatments at any time point.
3) Both SMT and HEA were more effective for reducing neck pain than medication in both the short and long term.

It also outlines how acupuncture works based on Chinese medicine to balance energy flows and treat various conditions by inserting needles at acupuncture points, and reviews studies showing acupuncture can help reduce migraines, arthritis pain, insomnia, and aid chemotherapy recovery. In summary, the document examines the roles and benefits of physiotherapy and acupuncture in treating various medical conditions.
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice using thin needles inserted into the skin at specific points to relieve pain and other symptoms. It has been used for over 2000 years and works by stimulating the nervous system to release chemicals that alter bodily processes. While not proven to cure illness, studies show acupuncture is effective for pain relief from headaches, back pain, and other conditions. The interviewed patients found acupuncture eliminated their severe back pain after other treatments failed, with minimal side effects from the needle insertion. They would recommend acupuncture and undergo it again due to its effectiveness.
1) Horizon Naturopathic is a clinic in Vancouver, BC that provides naturopathic medicine.
2) The clinic offers acupuncture therapy, which is based on the principle of vital energy (qi) flowing through meridians in the body. Blocked energy flow can cause disease.
3) Acupuncturists insert needles at specific points along meridians to restore qi flow and treat various conditions like pain, circulation issues, and addictions.
The document provides information on various complementary and alternative medicine therapies including acupuncture, massage therapy, mind-body medicine, tai chi, yoga, and reflexology. Dr. Kirk Johnson practices holistic and alternative medicine using chiropractic care, acupuncture, and functional medicine to treat common women's health conditions. He received postgraduate training in various complementary therapies and approaches the body as a interconnected system. Common treatments include chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, herbal supplements, dietary changes, and stress management to restore balance and support the body's natural healing abilities. Research shows that acupuncture and chiropractic care can effectively treat low back pain and that integrative approaches are beneficial for conditions like PMS, infertility, and adrenal fatigue.
Acupuncture can relieve pain through various eastern and western approaches. Eastern approaches view pain as blocked energy and use acupuncture needles, electrical stimulation, massage, and herbs to unblock chi flow. Western science finds acupuncture activates the body's natural painkilling substances and a brain imaging study found it reduces activity in pain processing areas by 60-70%. Clinical studies show acupuncture provides significant pain relief for headaches and is effective with fewer side effects than medications.
Acupuncture can effectively relieve pain through various traditional Eastern and modern Western mechanisms. Eastern approaches view pain as blocked energy resolved by needles, manual therapy, or herbs to remove blockages. Western science shows acupuncture stimulates the central nervous system to release endorphins and reduce pain perception in the brain. Studies demonstrate acupuncture significantly decreases pain levels and brain activity associated with pain, with few side effects compared to medications. Acupuncture is a proven treatment that increases quality of life for those suffering from pain.
Acupressure, reflexology, and auricular acupressure for insomnia: a systemati...RONSA1
Previous randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have shown that acupuncture may be efficacious for insomnia. Instead of needling, acupressure, reflexology, and auricular acupressure are procedures involving physical pressure on acupoints or reflex areas. These variants of acupuncture are gaining popularity, perhaps due to their non-invasive nature. A systematic review has therefore been conducted to examine their efficacy and safety for insomnia. Two independent researchers searched five English and 10 Chinese databases from inception to May 2010. Forty RCTs were identified for analysis. Only 10 studies used sham controls, four used double-blind design, nine studies scored three or more by the Jadad scale, and all had at least one domain with high risk of bias. Meta-analyses of the moderate-quality RCTs found that acupressure as monotherapy fared marginally better than sham control. Studies that compared auricular acupressure and sham control showed equivocal results. It was also found that acupressure, reflexology, or auricular acupressure as monotherapy or combined with routine care was significantly more efficacious than routine care or no treatment. Owing to the methodological limitations of the studies and equivocal results, the current evidence does not allow a clear conclusion on the benefits of acupressure, reflexology, and auricular acupressure for insomnia.
Acupuncture by Lara,Lucia,Cristina,Salome 4ºAmyenglishcorner
Acupuncture is a type of alternative medicine that treats patients by inserting thin needles into the body at certain points. It originated in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is based on the concept of balancing qi energy flow. While research has not found physical evidence for concepts like meridians or qi, acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed properly by trained practitioners, though there are small risks. Clinical practice involves diagnosis and needle insertion, and studies show acupuncture is used to treat pain, neurological issues, and stroke rehabilitation. However, scientific research on acupuncture remains controversial and has not demonstrated the anatomical existence of points and meridians central to its theoretical framework.
Two case reports: the first, 50-year-old male patient, A.M.B., who suffered from hemorrhoids (2003 to 2005). Moisturizers, medications and cauterization were not successful. The patient started treatment with auricular acupuncture and apex ear bloodletting. He also received measurement of the
chakras 10 years later, which attested his chakras were rated at the minimum level of energy (1) of 8. The second, a 38-year-old male patient, started treatment with ancient medical tools for vitiligo. On the middle of the treatment, he reported to have symptoms of hemorrhoids. Treatment was the same done in case 1 and received measurement of the chakras.
The document discusses the rise in popularity and use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies. It notes that interest in CAM has significantly increased in the United States, with 64% of medical schools offering CAM courses as of 1997. The National Institutes of Health established the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine in 1998 to sponsor research on various CAM therapies. Common CAM therapies discussed include acupuncture, massage, yoga, herbal medicine, and spirituality. The document reviews available research on the effectiveness and safety of these therapies for various pediatric conditions.
This randomized controlled trial investigated the effectiveness of pulsatile dry cupping therapy compared to no intervention for knee osteoarthritis. 40 patients were randomly assigned to receive either 8 cupping sessions over 4 weeks or no treatment. Outcome measures including pain, stiffness, physical function, and quality of life were assessed at 4 and 12 weeks. At 4 weeks, cupping resulted in significantly greater improvements in pain, physical function, and quality of life scores compared to the control group. Many benefits were still present at 12 weeks, though some scores were no longer significantly different. The study provides preliminary evidence that cupping may be an effective treatment for relieving symptoms of knee osteoarthritis.
Acupuncture has become more widely used in sports medicine to treat pain and hasten recovery from injuries. Modern acupuncture uses sterile, disposable needles inserted at specific points along "meridians" to balance the flow of life energy in the body. Treatment sessions typically involve 6-12 needles placed for 10-30 minutes. While generally safe, serious risks include infection and organ puncture. Research shows acupuncture effective for osteoarthritis knee pain and some studies find it can improve immune function after exercise. The largest trial to date found acupuncture helped reduce knee pain more than education or sham acupuncture.
This document summarizes research on using acupuncture to treat Meniere's disease. It discusses Meniere's disease and its symptoms from both Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine perspectives. A literature review found 3 studies showing acupuncture improved vertigo and dizziness associated with Meniere's disease. However, the research did not clearly show acupuncture improved hearing loss. The document discusses Meniere's disease and its treatment in the context of Yin-Yang balance and Traditional Chinese medicine patterns like dampness and wind. It concludes that while acupuncture may not treat hearing issues, it provides a feasible alternative or addition to Western treatments for controlling other Meniere's disease symptoms.
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese healing technique that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. It is based on the belief that vital energy called qi flows through meridians or energy pathways in the body, and inserting needles can restore balance when qi is disrupted. The document traces the history of acupuncture from ancient China to its introduction in Europe and the United States. It also describes related techniques like electroacupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, and acupressure. While research is still being done on how acupuncture works, supporters believe it can help reduce pain and relieve nausea. Potential risks include bleeding or organ damage if done improperly.

Your smile is beautiful.
Let’s be honest. Maintaining that beautiful smile is not an easy task. It is more than brushing and flossing. Sometimes, you might encounter dental issues that need special dental care. These issues can range anywhere from misalignment of the jaw to pain in the root of teeth.
5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT or Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that serves a range of roles in the human body. It is sometimes referred to as the happy chemical since it promotes overall well-being and happiness.
It is mostly found in the brain, intestines, and blood platelets.
5-HT is utilised to transport messages between nerve cells, is known to be involved in smooth muscle contraction, and adds to overall well-being and pleasure, among other benefits. 5-HT regulates the body's sleep-wake cycles and internal clock by acting as a precursor to melatonin.
It is hypothesised to regulate hunger, emotions, motor, cognitive, and autonomic processes.

We’re talking about Vedic Meditation, a form of meditation that has been around for at least 5,000 years. Back then, the people who lived in the Indus Valley, now known as India and Pakistan, practised meditation as a fundamental part of daily life. This knowledge that has given us yoga and Ayurveda, was known as Veda, hence the name Vedic. And though there are some written records, the practice has been passed down verbally from generation to generation.

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

How does A cupuncture
Therapy Work of
increased circulation?
Ev ery one knows of acupuncture, but do y ou know that acupuncture also helps in reducing
pain after Cesarean surgeries. This has been shown through a research. People from
Kaohsiung Medical Univ ersity in Taiwan assigned six ty women who underwent the aforesaid
surgery and also underwent the method of acupuncture or electro-acupuncture. This study
was published in the Chinese Medical Journal in the y ear 2009. It has been reported that
women who used acupuncture had lower amount of pain in two hours post the surgery . They
also requested morphine for an av erage of 1 0 minutes and also used 30 to 35 per cent less of
it within 24 hours of surgery .
What Kinds of Diagnostic
Testing are Performed?
The therapy consists of the practice of inserting thin needles inside the body locations of an
indiv idual. Now the effectiv eness of acupuncture in treating health conditions especially
pain is being studied by a body of scientific research. Earlier there was a study conducted by
researchers at the Duke Univ ersity and was presented at 2008 conference of the A merican
Society for A nesthesiology that included use of the therapy either before the surgery or
after the surgery . It was found out acupuncture led to lower lev els of pain and pain killers.
Less use of such pain killers also meant less side effects. Patients who did not receiv e the
treatment were more likely to get nausea, dizziness and 3.5 times more likely to hav e
urinary problems.
For all kinds of pain, acupuncture in Vancouv er was found to be effectiv e. Through a
study conducted by A rchiv es of Internal Medicine in the y ear 2008, it was found that 1 1 62
adults with back pain were randomly assigned to be treated with traditional acupuncture
and sham acupuncture. Sham acupuncture is the process in which needles were not giv en
into the meridians inside the body .
Researchers also found that mere 27 per cent of participants reported a minimum decrease
of 33 per cent along with an improv ement in their ability to function.
A nother analy sis published in A rchiv es of Internal Medicine in the y ear 201 2 rev iewed the
information pertaining to 1 8000 people who hav e earlier suffered from chronic pain due to
arthritis, headaches, neck along with shoulder and back pain. A ll the participants hav e been
assigned either to acupuncture or to sham acupuncture.
Research such as this has led researchers to think that acupuncture’s pain reliev ing benefit
comes from a placebo effect. Researcher A ndrew A v ins from the Univ ersity of California
states why the therapy works is not as important as the fact that the therapy does work. He
also suggested in writing in the A rchiv es of internal Medicine in the y ear 201 2 that scientific
proof supports, prov iding all patients with acupuncture who suffer from pain.
