This document proposes a new C-RAN architecture for LTE control signaling called C-RAN.D-MME. It integrates the MME functionality within the BBU located in data centers, treating each C-RAN like a single cell. This simplifies procedures like paging and tracking area updates. Analysis shows the new architecture reduces signaling load for initial attachment, UE-generated services, network-triggered services, handovers, and tracking area updates compared to previous D-RAN architectures. Evaluation results demonstrate significant improvements in reducing signaling load for key network metrics.
